I have been taking amitriptyline (10mg) for 3 month now to treat my fibromyalgia. I have had some relieve but find that I am putting on weight. My stomach looks really big like I am 5 months pregnant. Has anyone experienced weight gain?
Have a nice day.

I did gain weight over time however in my case it dawned on me, eventually, that I was less mobile but continued to eat the same as when I was running, I think medication is different for everyone, you should discuss this with your GP to rule out any other cause. Lou xx
Hi, Yes I have gained around 2 and a half stone I did blame the tablets as they make me crave sweet food but in all honesty I comfort ate alot so I think it's mo're that and being alot less active. I take 40 mg but I do think it's a great drug and helps me alot.
And yes people have asked me if I'm pregnant someone even asked how long I had left ha poor man I think he wanted the ground to swallow him up when I said I wasn't pregnant.
are you just swollen around the tummy or have the scales been mean and said you have gained pounds? X
Yes, its big around the tummy and the scales also show that I have gained weight. Its not fair ... thanks for you response ... I thought it was just me. Take good care.
I am so genuinely sorry to read that and although I do not take this medication, I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck. I would discuss this wit your GP to see if there is something else that they can offer you?
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi Wendy, I too have the 'pregnant' look and weight gain from Amitriptyline unfortunately. It is a good drug, but if you take to many, I have noticed that I get cotton wool mouth too, so ensure that your dosage is regulated and reviewed often. I have now turned to Slimming World for help too although it is slow progress! My stomach is the worst, but it is going down a little, so I wish you good luck and hope you find comfort in knowing that you are not alone! Take care. Fay
Yep I am on that also and have put on a lot of weight I eat moderatly notihng for breakfast and maybe a sandwich for lunch and a small meal at dinner and nothing after that I do not drink or smoke and my consultant informed it that lack of sleep or not sleeping correctly can cause weight gain!
i was already large before starting on any medication, and have been lucky enough not too have put anymore on despite steriods, gabapentin and amytryptilline. I also have an underactive thyriod.
i even managed to lose a lot whilst on all of the above, but that was due to work related stress. now all in the past.
my thoughts are i would prefer to be on them to try and control some of the pain; but all our experiences are different and you have too do what suits you
I too put on weight but generally as I was not as mobile as someone else has stated, my stomach also swells but has nothing to do with the medication but is associated to my IBS. I have has IBS for many years but since being diagnosed with fibro it does also irritate that. If you do not have IBS this could be a new factor to ask the doc
