Hi there,

you mention that you take Omeprazole twice a day for your Heartburn/Indigestion, so I take it that your GP must prescribe this for you, and you also take Gaviscon Advance, and none of these are helping you.

I think what you should do is go back to your GP and tell him that your Meds are not helping, and that you would like to get a referral to a Gastrologist for investigation. You could have a Hiatus Hernia. Continuous Acid Reflux can damage your Oesophagus and if not treated can cause a condition called Barrett’s Oesophagus, and that can potentially cause Cancer of the Oesophagus if not monitored regularly.

In the meantime, you could try not eating the things that could trigger acid reflux, like Spicy Food, Coffee, Tea, Tomatoes, Chocolate, Alcohol. Eat little and often, and you could raise the top of your bed with blocks or books so that the acid can’t go up to your throat and damage it while you’re sleeping. Also, check that you’re taking your Omeprazole as directed, and don’t take Gaviscon within 2hrs of taking Omeprazole as they interact.

I have every sympathy with you as Acid Reflux/Heartburn can make your life a misery, and we don’t need that when we’ve got Fibro. So make an appointment to see your GP and get it sorted.

Good luck.

GP. 😊😊

Used to frequently. Then I decided to omit all processed foods and refined sugars from my diet and have to say haven't suffered much since. The only times it reoccurs is when I have fallen off the wagon and eaten something I should not have. Trouble is fibro is different for all of us and what works for one may not work for another but it may be worth a try as it is completely drug free.

I have struggled for years with bad heartburn. The thing that helps me best is avoiding trigger foods. For me that is anything with tomato, chocolate, fatty foods, fruit juices and spicy food.

Hope you find out what helps you

I did suffer like you for quite a while and then one day I vomited so much blood. It turned out I had an ulcer caused by all the pain killers I had been taking. I was hospitalised and had a blood transfusion. Please go to your doctor.

Yes, I'm on lansoprazole for mine. Try and avoid anything that might trigger it.

Tummy issues end up dominating your life. Doesn't every social activity revolve around food and drink? Often it's unhealthy stuff too like cake and biscuits and beer.

I find a spoonful of bicarb in a glass of water, helps to settle it. And sipping water with some bicarb can keep things settled. Don't over do it and not if you cant manage salt. But also cutting the foods that fight me. Sugar, refined stuff, etc. I have lots of foods that also cause issues. Fruit is a big one for me. I love it but hate the pain.

Healing the gut is really important. Something you have to keep working at. Read up about it. Probiotics turmeric, L glutamine etc.

Doctors meds may be OK short term for reducing symptoms, but long term fixes nothing. you need a real solution. I found the domperidone lansoprazole etc didn't help and one drug gave major side effects and had to be stopped before permanent damage was done. Eek?

Tummy issues go with fibro like fish goes with chips. Heal your tum and other symptoms can be helped too. Esp mental issues are now being linked with poor gut health. Anxiety is a major one. Does that make fixing your gut the natural way seem worth it? I'm convinced so many are suffering because their guts are out of whack. Never mind grabbing anti depressants as a first remedy it ought to be look to the gut and fix that first.

So many folks with anxiety say they no longer recognise themselves how they feel so panicky when they never were before. and Most say oh yes my tum is a trouble. likely if you looked at their gut bacteria, it is different now to what it was when they were well. We need to remember that our bacteria are our friends they are on our side and look after us. if we loose them we are soon surrounded by strangers. Ones that like sugar instead of veggies. ones that don't make us happy. It's a thought you might like to consider. It can help to take some control where you can for your getting better. The dr can give you meds that may help while you take them, but it isn't fixing anything.

Hi, I've had reflux for years. I was given Omeprazole at first. They didn't work for me. There are many different PPI's you can have. If it hasn't worked after 2 weeks I'd go back to your GP.
