Yes hun I had this and a bone density scan some years ago, it looks at the thickness of our bones, any deformaties and on my shoulder; a hole leaking out calcium... Sjorgrens will show in a blood test, they look for an ANA reading, if its negative then I believe with symptoms described its classed as SICCA syndrome..if you are looking for some help with sjorgrens and keeping it under control just let me know.

I went for a Bone Scan using a radioactive substance in July. I was scanned first without any radioactive marker, then after was given an injection of this marker in to the vein in the arm, and that was it for around 2 hours. Was told to drink lots (as apparently this makes the marker go around the body. Was told to eat and drink normally during the time I was away from Nuclear Medicine Dept.

On return, was told to empty bladder and go in to the scan room. The scanner they use is an open one - Not like an MRI scanner. They do put the platform you lie on as close to the scanner as possible so the scanner plate does come pretty close to you, but it isn't claustrophobic. The scan itself takes around an hour and they look for 'hotspots' on the scan images to see where the marker is most densely accumulated. The results are then sent to your Consultant and reviewed in clinic.

Hope this helps

Hi Mandy - The results of my scan showed active inflammation in both knees, feet and wrists. These were shown by bright echo's or what they call the 'hotspots'. They found no evidence of any bone tumours which might have been causing the pain in my legs and thighs. It just showed up where my active arthritis was currently giving me pain.

Hope this helps.
