depending what your on this could be a very unwise decision. Should not do this without speaking to your GP.

Hi Kira 1

My son was told by his GP that all the meds he was taking will take 10 years of his life, so he decided to stop all meds. He did it slowly and with help of the GP. 5 months on he is off all meds, the pain is no better or worse. What is good is his brain is not so jumbled and he does not get uptight. Occasionally he has taken Tramadol, but tries to avoid it as it gives him a headache for 3 days. Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

Any natural ideas would be welcome.

Many negative things are an individual's decision but if you have the opportunity to counsel them for a better course of action then we should do it. Some drugs side effects are very severe especially when there is more than one involved.

Please read my post “ I would love to hear —-“. Many kind people replied giving me lots of ideas of how to adapt and manage fibro. No one went down the meds path. Hope you get on well. Xx

"my doctor wouldn't let me"?? It's your body, your life, your choice. Your doctor is not responsible for your choice but is there to advise and help you make informed decisions on your way of life.

That's what we pay them for.

I'm glad I stopped taking tramadol.... Evil drug (though I am allergic to codeine in all forms) and the best thing I have ever done is to give up diet coke and anything else with artificial sweeteners in. Soooo much less pain.

there are many situations where a dr will not let you and be in the right. Insulin and anti rejection meds for a transplant would be severe counselling against.

Antipsychotics and the like would possibly result in a section to enforce the medication.

Can you please tell me more about the artificial sweetener thing I’ve mknd of heard about it but never from someone who it’s affected

Hi , I just know that I read enough about it to give it a go. And for me it works. I look at all sorts of things from squashes/fizzy drinks and puddings/yoghurts.

Worth a week or two of trying ?

Morning I think we can all relate to feeling are these meds really helping at all ? you have had some very wise replies from members , differently I would ring surgery and get appointment for advice so if doctor gradually weans you off your meds you’ll have a few days off at home which might help, a quick withdrawal can result in feeling much worse, I wish you the very best let us know how you get along and take care xx

Guess we are all different! I went cold turkey from tramadol... Not a pleasant two weeks, but much better after I stopped using it.

Just be aware hun if you are taking anything opiate based like co codamol or tramdaol you might get withdrawal and will need to lay down for a day or so-Dont Drive!

It takes several days to get them out of your system - but soooooo glad I believed I could do it.

Do speak to your GP about your decision should you need support to come off them.

You can do what you choose wrt your body. You are not forced to take medication against your will.

You may take or leave the advice / information of any doctor.

You must do what you think is right for yourself once you have the information

I have come off everything (apart from co-codamol) slowly over the past couple of months. I no longer have the horrid side effects and the fibro pain is no worse so I am glad I did it. Felt very nauseous and dizzy at first but like you I came off when I could take some time to relax. Depending on how much you are cutting out it's sometimes better to wean off. It is our body and we know it best so when people say "my doctor won't let me" it makes my blood boil. I am fortunate to have full support of my doctor who like me would rather keep meds down to just essential ones, if not I would change doctor. I have also cut out diet coke etc. as it made my stomach burn.
