Meds or vitamins & diet

Hi I've had Cervical Spondylosis for 30 years and Fibromyalgia for 4. I'm struggling with pain and lack of sleep. Trying to keep off meds as they didn't help so I'm taking about 13 different vitamins a day. Been on them for about 2 months but not getting the relief I thought I would have by now. Getting so sick of it.

Sometimes you need proper medication for the pain that's my opinion i also take vitamins as well I think subconsciously we no there is no cure for fibromyalgia and that's in the back of our heads that's what I think anyway hope you find something that helps you take care ☺

Cervical Spondylolysis is a bummer at the best of times as my hubby, myself and my best friend have it. I have actually found here neck exercises and acupuncture has helped with that. For several years my neck was very painful and then actually it has seemed to get better don't know whether it is because of all the drugs I am on for fibro. I have tried all the supplements but to be quite honest I have found them a waste of money. Of course if you are short of a specific vitamin like D they can be a godsend. Have you had any advice from a physio?x

I've had spine injections and facet injections. Accupuncture. All sorts of therapy and have been told many times over the years that no more can be done and just self medicate. I do do neck excercises. I had a slight stroke last year and they think the blood to my brain is being pinched but to dangerous to operate.

I am so sorry I just don't know what to suggest for you as with the stroke you have to be especially careful. It seems as though you have tried everything, have they suggested a neck collar. I found cool gel the best for the pain as heat seemed to make it worse. Have you tried a Tens machine in a very low tapping mode out on your shoulders as if they are tense with the pain it can makes things worse. Do hope others can help more.😘x

i was going to say tens machine. my dad had it sister got it and dad medicated, sis uses tens n massage. but also reflexology. i don't know if it helps but certainly helps with muscle relaxing and well feeling.

I always say whatever helps you must be good. If you believe it will it often does. My friend believes in Reiki and is better for weeks after a session. I bought one if those hot stone aromatherapy massages for my friend who was completely stressedout her shoulders were nearly up to her ears she was so tense. She fell asleep during the treatment and was like a new woman when she came out.x

Hi. I believe that with C S the joints eventually fuse together restricting movement and thankfully the pain lessens.

All the best.

Hi

I am on no meds from the dr except for anti depressants.

Have you tripped hemp tablets, magnesium spray oil or Epsom salts?

Gentle exercise and gentle massage helps me and using the jacuzzi.

I also use Volterol gel.

Hope something helps you.

Good luck and take care.

Hi angiesmith50

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

fmauk.org/

I am so genuinely sorry to read of how you are suffering and struggling and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to these issues. There is a danger from taking too many supplements that your body may not necessarily needs. I have pasted for you below an excerpt and a link to the *WebMD cache on this:

*The Dangers of Too Much Anything

*Taking a vitamin or supplement as directed on the package label is considered to be safe, but not following directions can lead to problems.

"Excesses of all nutrients, from water, to iron, to water-soluble B vitamins, can potentially cause toxicities," says Norman Hord, PhD, MPH, RD, associate professor in the department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University. People who take vitamins and minerals in amounts above the established upper limits of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) may harm tissues where the vitamin is stored in their body, Hord explains. That’s why you shouldn’t take more than the recommended amount.

Vitamins and other nutrients play essential roles in maintaining good health, but they need to be consumed in the proper amounts. Vitamins are classified into two types: water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins. They are divided into these groups according to how they are dissolved and stored in your body. Fat-soluble vitamins reside in your body's fatty tissue and liver and are used as needed by your body. By contrast, water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and generally are not stored in your body.

Water-Soluble Vitamins and Nutrients

Because water-soluble vitamins and nutrients dissolve in water, the continuous supply your body needs calls for a steady daily intake, from the foods you eat, from the supplements you take, or from a combination of foods and supplements. Vitamins C, B12, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, tryptophan, pantothenic acid, biotin, and folic acid are all classified in the water-soluble category.

I would be tempted to talk to either your doctor or medical specialist about a care and nutritional plan such as gentle physio, hydrotherapy and pain medication to try and stem the tide of this. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Thank you Ken for your advise and kind words. Because I was so ill I paid to see an alternative specialist in London and found my gut had so many toxins stored and was not absorbing water. I was deficient in most vitamins and was in a bad way. She put me on a detox diet and recommended the vitamins I'm taking. She was not happy with the meds I was on and as they were not helping anyway I came off them. I'm just getting frustrated and feel pulled in 2 different directions but neither are helping anyway. I'm seeing doc today so will see what she recommends. So glad I've found this site. Thank you for your kindness.

Hi Angie. Are you on anti coags after your stroke or did you have a bleed. You have to be careful to check supplements are not contraindicated as well as meds.

I have been taking magnesium citrate and vit D. which is supposed to be good for joints and muscles.
