Help! I've recently put a lot of weight on and I'm already really big so the extra weight is causing so many problems like I can hardly walk without extreme pain in my back and I cant stand up straight anymore cos of the extra weight, I went to my Dr to change pain killers and he's refused and the main reason for the weight gain was too much pain causing me to become immobile. I'm so stuck and I don't no what to do cos i cant excercise cos im in so much pain and so stiff all the time but im worried I'm gonna keep piling the weight on. I'm currently 140kg and 5ft9 I have fybromyalgia and endometriosis.
I'm also really depressed and stuck in a rut, I want to go swimming but I don't go cos im too self conscious plus cos im so low just now I just can't be bothered doing anything so I no what I need to do im just having problems doing it cos of being self conscious and depressed. Any help would be appreciated

Hi, sorry to hear what you are going through. It is difficult one but can your doctor refer to pain clinic and/ or weight loss program? I was referred to pain clinic seminars to help understand pain and they talked about pacing etc and then they had a referral form for weight loss which i filled out and hav been sent a voucher to slimming world which i have just joined up but past few days havent been good as back to work and issues there. But at least i know its a step to hopefully losing weight. I have too piled on weight as was losing a lot due to walking to work etc but then all pains, fatigue etc and now on so many tablets which are affecting my weight too and getting depressed with it all so on antidepressants too.
Not sure what else could suggest apart from speaking to a different doctor as they should be looking after you as a whole not sure say no to changing pains killers and not helping you. X
good luck with slimming world -I lost 4 stone with them - very easy to do and not a diet just a change in how you think about food and how to substitute healthier lower fat foods. Worked well for me and I haven't put the weight back on. Go Peanut keep us posted.
Thank you. That is my issue as I know I comfort eat. I just need to get into healthy eating! This week not great as back to work and I’m struggling as so exhausted plus already been shopping before joined up! Not holding my out much hope for weigh in Monday! But I’m trying to do a menu plan so can just go shopping Saturday and get those bits so from Saturday at least be on right track! Will keep updated of how it goes! Just trying to balance that with work and waiting for more bloods and seeing doctor again too due to inflammation levels and then occupational health on Friday for work. Why can’t it just be one thing at a time for use to deal with? Easier to cope with then?!
Well you for losing that much and keeping it off. I have a lot more need to lose so bit daunting at moment. X
comfort eating is allowed on the slimming world - just use the free foods or make sure you count the syns. Take it a pound at a time. Rapid weight loss isn't good for you. Don't worry and throw in the towel if you put weight on one week or remain the same it happens. You have nothing to lose trying it except the weight. The support from slimming world is great. I know how difficult it is to juggle everything. I have a litter of puppies at the moment and juggling part time work (husband at home retired to look after pups), seeing 8 lots of families wanting to see their pups, organising all the paperwork, daughter 8 months pregnant and busy trying to organise her baby shower for saturday afternoon, plus I have committee meeting in north (i live in south) on sunday. know that I will be fit for nothing come monday morning I'm exhausted just thinking about it all.
Hi Dawn... Ive only recently been diagnosed and am waiting to see pain specialist re medications. My wife however takes medication for Symphis pubis dysfunction, pelvis goes out of alignment. She was prescribed gabapentin. This caused her to put on about 3 stone in weight. She came off of it 2 months ago and has nearly lost a stone. I was just wondering if youve been prescribed the same....
I was only diagnosed less than a year ago and I'm on baclofen, dihydracodiene and pregabalin, which I've been on for over 4 years because the first Dr I saw shrugged off fybro then a second Dr years later said i definitely have it. I've always been overweight but it's now so bad I cant even do basic tasks like house work for more than a few minutes before my backs in agony, the muscles in my back and legs are solid cos they seem to be in a permanent spasm. I can't shower every day cos im in so much pain after a few mins I have to stop and sit on the side.
What really annoys me tho is they won't do a gastric bypass on the nhs cos i donthave type 2 diabetes even tho my Dr agrees it will improve my mobility and quality of life massivly he's also told me that at my weight I will find it impossible to lose weight without surgery but I don't fit the stupid criteria
Hi, I gained a heap of weight when I became bedbound then got better and moved to the couch. My weight gain was a combination of immobility. Too scared to exercise because it tended to make the pain worse or bring pain on if I was not in pain. The other reason I gained so much weight was the medication I was taking, seroquil gives you cravings and you will find forums where everyone has stacked on the weight. My point is check out reviews on the medication you are on and see how it has worked for other people. If your GP isn't helping you should move on to another GP or insist he refers you to a specialist. That is what he is supposed to do. GP's only diagnose a problem then they are supposed to refer their patient to a specialist who deals with that diagnosis.
Its difficult because I get where your at .. weight gain is common amongst those with chronic illnesses. Don’t be embarrassed about going swimming there are plenty of others in there who are in the same position and they won’t judge you... build up to it don’t try and do it all in one day. I would also reccomend a healthy eating plan rather than a diet. Your not alone though , I would suggest get an appointment with doctor and getting referred to a fibromyalgia group or clinic so you can get tips on things you can do. Wish you well
