Hello
I’m popped over to this forum from the Thyroid forum.
Very recently I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s (autoimmune disease) and an underactive Thyroid.
Before I was diagnosed I’ve always suffered from neck pain and shoulder pain, and always had lots of knots.
I had physio which I was referred to by my GP as at this point my thyroid hadn’t been checked out.
The physio lady asked if I had been in a car accident as I was so tight and I could hardly move my neck.
I also had acupuncture and this didn’t help either.
Anyway, she freed it slightly and she gave me some exercises to do, it improved slightly.
I stopped the gym as thought it was a gym injury, but that didn’t help in fact I felt worse.
I saw an Endocrinologist as by this time I suspected thyroid, I tested positive for Epstein Barr virus and the Endocrinologist said my neck pain and shoulder pain was a result of this.
He gave me some anti virus tablets to take and I took them for a month.
The stiffness never went, he diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s as I had antibodies present and showed high inflammation on a blood test.
However, I soon learnt that as my TSH was not above 10, he wouldn’t prescribe me Levothyroxine (thyroid medication)
I got worse and by this time I went back to my GP, my TSH was 12.2 so I was started on Levothyroxine that was in March.
My neck has always felt stiff, but liveable.
However, since Sunday I have had major neck pain and stiffness, shoulder pain, which has cause me headaches.
Today my neck is totally locked up, my hubby had to help me out of bed and I haven’t gone to work as I can’t drive and move my neck.
I can hardly move it. I’ve been reading that T3 can help with this, as Levothyroxine only contains T3.
As I have Hashimoto’s we can’t convert T4 to T3.
Someone from Thyroid forum gave me a document stating fibromyalgia and T3 improves symptoms.
Has anyone took T3 to help? and did it.
what do you do for pain relief. I’ve been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen and using a ice pack.
My neck pain is unbearable.
Best wishes
