Thyroid and fibromyalgia help.

Hello

I’m popped over to this forum from the Thyroid forum.

Very recently I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s (autoimmune disease) and an underactive Thyroid.

Before I was diagnosed I’ve always suffered from neck pain and shoulder pain, and always had lots of knots.

I had physio which I was referred to by my GP as at this point my thyroid hadn’t been checked out.

The physio lady asked if I had been in a car accident as I was so tight and I could hardly move my neck.

I also had acupuncture and this didn’t help either.

Anyway, she freed it slightly and she gave me some exercises to do, it improved slightly.

I stopped the gym as thought it was a gym injury, but that didn’t help in fact I felt worse.

I saw an Endocrinologist as by this time I suspected thyroid, I tested positive for Epstein Barr virus and the Endocrinologist said my neck pain and shoulder pain was a result of this.

He gave me some anti virus tablets to take and I took them for a month.

The stiffness never went, he diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s as I had antibodies present and showed high inflammation on a blood test.

However, I soon learnt that as my TSH was not above 10, he wouldn’t prescribe me Levothyroxine (thyroid medication)

I got worse and by this time I went back to my GP, my TSH was 12.2 so I was started on Levothyroxine that was in March.

My neck has always felt stiff, but liveable.

However, since Sunday I have had major neck pain and stiffness, shoulder pain, which has cause me headaches.

Today my neck is totally locked up, my hubby had to help me out of bed and I haven’t gone to work as I can’t drive and move my neck.

I can hardly move it. I’ve been reading that T3 can help with this, as Levothyroxine only contains T3.

As I have Hashimoto’s we can’t convert T4 to T3.

Someone from Thyroid forum gave me a document stating fibromyalgia and T3 improves symptoms.

Has anyone took T3 to help? and did it.

what do you do for pain relief. I’ve been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen and using a ice pack.

My neck pain is unbearable.

Best wishes

I have an immflamatory rate of 72 which rheumy said was slightly raised. I had a lip biopsy to test for sjogrens which came back as inconclusive. I have always had a bad neck, shoukders/shoulder blades. always have been right muscle wise and knitted. had treatment 25 years ago. ok for a day or 2 then back to how it was. didn't bother anymore. I have fibromialgia but as I say sjogrens which I assume is to do with immflamation has come back inconclusive. I feel my neck needs support with a collar some days. everywhere bloody aches. nightmare. xx

Someone on the thyroid forum posted this for me, hence me coming on this forum. (Attachment bottom of page)

There is a connection with thyroid and low T3, it basically states that patients with fibromyalgia were given T3 and it helped them drastically.

I’m on 100mcg of Levothyroxine and has a blood test soon to see how my thyroid ranges are for an increase.

75mcg is still a low dosage?

Does your GP test TSH, T4 and T3? .

As we have Hashimoto’s we often can’t convert T4 (Levothyroxine) into T3 and this is why we never feel well no matter what dosage of Levothyroxine we are on.

I’m Adding T3 to my Levothyroxine as from my previous blood results I’m not converting well enough and new this document backs up even more I need to add it.
