a lack of vitamins will be cured by vitamins but that's about as far as I would go.

no evidence to prove that they will help fibro never mind come close to treating it. However as i said people that are deficient in vitamins will benefit from getting that sorted but that is different.

I’ve just been told to stop my b12 at the moment as it has increased my red cell blood count (hope I’ve got that rite) Friend recommended b12 who has fibro/cfs works wonders for her, but seeing doc this week and wondering with other supplements I’ve over done things. Think we all try hard to try and help ourselves especially vitamin d , as with our British weather we can lack this with the long winter months. Avoiding dairy this is coming up a lot on people’s posts recently. Xx

Doctors have gone without vitamins and minerals so show how important they are. Some Doctors have died in that process.

In the 1920s poor areas down south in America whole families were dying with a shaking illness. A Doctors from New York looked at their diet and found they were living on pig fat and grits ( corn porridge) Doctors had said this was a was a Genetic illness.

The Doctors and his wife herself a Doctor went on the diet of pig fat and grits. Sadly his wife diet so the government had to take notice.

Doctors research is ignored over and over again. In our dining room when I was student nurse in the 1960s there was had a bottle of Vitamin B complex on every table. Years later I found out the need for B vitamins

I am sorry but I am not sure where you are coming from and the relevance of the medical profession a 100 years ago. The state of medicine in the last 30 years has changed so much that it meaningless to compare.

Change in treatments, regulation and general approach are so different.

This forum is about fibromyalgia and not the promotion of vitamins but if a GP tests you and you have a deficiency then take them and by all means a balanced diet will help. As I understand it with a vegetarian or vegan diet then vitamins are more important but there is no relationship with a particular vitamin having a causal or significant effect on fibro. If you have a deficiency then it could mimic symptoms or stress the body tomake fibro first but this goes back to being tested and then addressing that requirement.

Its irresponsible to say that eat a vegan diet and take some supplements and your fibro will go away. Please anyone speak to your GP if you have any concerns.

Ours body have not changed in a hundred years only our diet which is not organic now.

We are living longer however so people are prescribed so many drugs they are living in a hazy cloud. The government published study year in year out shows how many people die from prescribed drugs. I prefer to take my vitamins

People are on this forum because the need support.

need support but advice from a sound backing is preferable. Just like people can die from too much water, any substance can be harmful in the wrong amounts, at the wrong times or in the wrong combination with other things.

you seem to be generalising greatly which I find worrying from someone that has previously served as a medical profession. Good clinical evidence should be the base to work from not generalisations, guesses or personal opinion.

The government published study year in year out shows how many people die from prescribed drugs. I prefer to take my vitamins.

This is scaremongering. With an example of diabetes there is this stat from 2015:

"In 2015, more than 542,000 children in the world were living with type 1 diabetes."

In 1920 this would be a 100% death rate! so prescriptions have a place and if followed correctly then they will help people whether it be diabetes or pain.

You are correct that this forum is for support but not for people dictating their own beliefs on others. If it was as simple as popping some vitamin pills and eating no meat then the condition would not exist anymore. But its not and the condition is still here.

Excellent reply desquinn and I have to say this is how my own mind set works too. well said. Both medication, healthy diet and vitamins when needed used in conjunction with each other can be invaluable to help keep the body healthy. The body is a very complex piece of equipment and it take a lot to help keep it ticking over. But this is just my opinion and we all do what we feel is right for us. We also must remember what works for one person does not always work for another and this includes change of diets. Has we have read from other vegans on this post they still are suffering sadly.

I know we all like to hear what is helping a member. But I do feel it it is wrong for posters to assume we all will feel the benefits they may be feeling. And I feel such blanket statements can be very harmful. I also agree talking about people dying is scaremongering so thank you for this very sobering and honest reply.

Good diet I agree, but it won’t cure Fibromyalgia but diet is important

No it won't, if it did we would all be vegan! I've tried the vegan diet several times and it actually makes me very ill!

I know a lot of people have had amazing results from going vegan so I'm not saying it's bad but we're not all the same and we have to do what actually works for our individual bodies and digestive systems.

There are actually a lot of people like me for whom a vegan diet is a health disaster.

If only it was as simple as one diet will cure everyone, we would all be well by now.

Yea agreed and for those of us whom have put weight on owing pregabalyn what chance have we ! I keep a steady diet of my pills that sometimes ease the pain and healthy food apart from tomorrow I’m have fish and chips 😂

I'm sorry to sound argumentative but please do not fabricate facts to persuade people to turn vegan. This is not a true fact, any dietician or specialist will tell you that there are no specific health benefits from veganism. Yes you may feel healthier, but to state that it cures all sounds like fanaticism ... Just stating my opinion and beliefs, as a vegan of many years who lives with PBC, Fibromyalgia, diabetes type 2, Hydradenitis, Sjorgens and possibly LAM

Can you tell us 1) if you have FM and details of how going vegan helped you and 2) in what areas ? You made a sweeping statement so back it up !

I am 73 years old a retired nurse. Last month I was asked to have my 5 year health check and the outcome was to come back in 5 years. So the test showed that B/P Blood sugar weight and Cholesterol were in the normal levels. My diet is vegan but I was vegetarian since 1985 and became vegan after having breast cancer in 2001. Having a good vegan diet like the Seventh day adventist keeps me well. Everyday I take my vitamins.

Dr Rangan Chatterjee helped a woman with Fybromyalgia and Me and a list ailments recover. He helped people with chronic illness recover

Warm regards peace and love to all you lovely people

I feel better than I have for a while (despite being exhausted all the time!) I had all of my intolerances looked at in detail (which told me to avoid tonnes of things including wheat, dairy and egg but not meat), take some relevant supplements, exercise regularly and regularly see a chiropractor.

Personally I think the theory that a diet will cure everything is incorrect, look after yourself and do what you can to be the best version of yourself and you will reap the rewards but don’t expect it to change everything. I have chronic health issues, I will always have and feel my chronic health issues, but I will always do what I can to make that as easy as possible.

Each to their own though, if you feel a vegan diet is curing you then more power to you 🙌🏻

We all do our best and our best is always good enough. Our family loved meat as I did and I became vegetarian because of the transportation of animals and because my children were vegetarian.

If animals were killed on the farm I think I would still be eating meat. However all my family died from either strokes or bowel cancer and I feel more healthy not eating meat. The thing that I have the most problems with is that I am allergic to Gluten. My family love my pies and pastries, but I cant have them.

I'm vegan too. My health never seems to recover once it's taken a knock, and I have to have a low fat diet due to having no gall bladder. Therefore, I made the decision to give up all animal products. This means my weaknesses of cheese and cr@p food is controlled and I can keep my weight well under control. My personal belief is that a vegan diet can agree with anyone, provided you eat a WIDE range of veg, pulses and seeds. After a while, you don't need to police your diet, since it becomes second nature. It has to involve WHOLE foods with no processed rubbish. Though I think that you did do your reserve and get a bank of easy to achieve recipes before you begin.

Professor Chatterjee helped me to But not about diet Fibromyalgia

A bit misleading, having been diagnosed with fibro in mid 2016 and struggling to manage on painkillers (and even antidepressant for a time) I changed to vegan diet over a year ago and in addition started a regime of vitamin/mineral supplements (incl magnesium, B12 and probiotics) , not just because of the diet but because I also have some deficiency issues stemming from bariatric surgery in 2011 when I had a sleeve gastrectomy.

While at that time it was not believed that type of surgery had the same malabsorptive issues as a gastric bypass it is now emerging that it may actually lead to iron deficiency due to lack of or reduced intrinsic factor (produced in parietal cells of stomach lining) this apparently can lead onto other absorption issues.

Even with diet change and supplements I cannot say I am cured although with prescribed pain meds I can now manage my condition better than I could prior to diet change and supplements.
