PIP Claim

In November 2016 I attended a DLA to PIP Assessment. At the time I had middle rate care and high rate mobility. I had a car on the Motability scheme. Two weeks after, I found out I had zero points for mobility and lost my car in January 2017. I was awarded Standard Daily Living. I went through a mandatory reconsideration and ended up with 4 points for mobility so I applied for a tribunal. My hearing was July 2017 and I lost the appeal, even though the report from Atos was fundamentally dishonest.

In February 2018 I decided to reapply. The Assessment came within a month. My sister was supposed to come with me but couldn’t due to heavy snow the night before. I decided I would attend anyway. The Assessment company called itself Independent Assessment Services but was actually a re-branded Atos. I was worried I wouldn’t be successful. The Assessment lasted 90 minutes, three times longer than previously. I recieved my decision last week. I was awarded Standard Daily Living again and got Standard Mobility. I am glad I’ve been awarded something but I am still worried that the report wasn’t an honest appraisal. I’m too scared to challenge the decision now! Apparently, I displayed no cognitive impairment. I have had a cognitive impairment all my life, it’s called Dysgraphia, a form of Dyslexia. I was diagnosed by an educational psychologist at college at age 21. What is everyone else’s experience of the PIP Assessment process? Should I appeal this decision leave it alone now? I will be reviewed it 2021 so I may just accept things for now.

Hi

I have dislexia and it was never taken into consideration and I think it's a fare point. Depends how bad it is, mine didn't stop me from understanding communication just writing and making scene for what I wrote.

So I excepted my decision, I to lost my car but greatfull for what I get.

If you feel you should get more appeal,

I got a grant from mobility towards buying a car. If you didn't ask about it.

All the best.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I had to borrow money from the bank so I could buy a car. It’s wheelchair accessible. I can walk short distances but I now use the chair regularly. I also bought the Powerchair myself. I’ve been using the Daily Living part of PIP for my mobility needs. I’m going to accept the award given and try again in a couple of years.

Well if I was in your position I would be appeal and take my bank loan agreement with you stating how much extra stress this has caused me.

Hi

PIP is a different criteria to DLA so awared as such

I would just be satisfied with what you have as their is a chance they will look at awared and you may end up losing some of what you have.

I would imagine they are judging your cognitive thinking on questions that ask you to remember a address and then repeat it after them later in assessment or spelling a word backwards or even repeating the three words .

If you have further medical evidence to sate you have Dysplasia ,or can tie it in with the information they have sent re assessment. You could ask for MR stating that although you agree with most of the award you do feel that they have not considered fully the fact you have dysphasia. Then state how this effect you and what help you need .But you must tie it in with their replies on the activities you feel you should have been awared on or should have been awared more on .

Hope this makes sense

Hi, thanks for your reply, unfortunately I believe I have some degree of Asbergers but I can’t get anyone interested now I am an adult. I’ve discussed my cognitive impairment with my Sister and she knows I have struggled all my life. I am going to accept the award I have for now as something is better than nothing.

Hi, I am going to accept the award as it is and try get more supporting evidence for the review in 2021:-) They annoy me, just because I am able to operate a car they use it against me and say I’m o.k. finding my way on my own! It’s frustrating but getting something is better than getting nothing.

So if you can't operate a car or find where going why would you want a mobility car?

Do they suppose you just want one to sit in it and go brum brum and jiggly the wheel like a 5 year old?

stupid me i always thought you got one so could get somewhere in safety
