hi patch, did you apply for the badge itself or do you get PIP too, I have heard they put you through an assessment if you don't get PIP and just wondered what its like? :-)

Hi hen-house, thought I would just jump in here. I have a blue badge but don't claim any benefits. Each local authority operates a sightly different way for blue badges. If you check on line with your own Council it will give you information. Whatever you do don't use the firms advertising forms for blue badges. I filled the form in and sent my diagnosis letter and a list of the drugs the doctor would prescribe (I cannot take them due to side effects). I was called in for a short meeting with a occupational therapist. She accompanied me from reception into a meeting room and we chatted about how I do my supermarket shop etc. Then we went for a walk back to reception. She did say that had I been in receipt of PIP I would have had the badge automatically and she was surprised I hadn't applied for it. That was it. Two weeks later I had the blue badge.

I also got my badge by talking to the council dept, I took some of my hospital letters, well before I applied for pip. I put off claiming pip for years as it was then still called disabled living allowance and I did not regard myself disabled then. Definitely am now !

In my area you meet the criteria for a blue badge on the standard rate of pip 8 points, it doesn't come automatically, you have to apply, So pleased to see how people have benefited from your post Patches 12.

I heard that one too. So if you're 90 and can do a few somersaults you're good to go!

It's ridiculous if you're 80+ and suffering from arthritic knees they MUST assess you of course just to be certain.

You can do the Blue Badge on-line I hear.

Hi dinkie ,sorry to jump in, what exactly does the blue badge entitle you to do,?if you don’t mind me asking.

No problem Alan. The blue badge, presuming of course you are in UK, entitles you to use any parking bay with a disabled parking sign. With our local authority they do not charge blue badge holders for using any public car park they own but beware commercial companies although providing dedicated disabled parking do charge. It also entitles you to park in other areas and on yellow lines but the rules are strict about this part. If you get a blue badge they issue you with a booklet stating the rules and regulations. My local authority charged me £10 for the badge.

go for it - I can't believe how much difference it has made to me. I'm much more likely to venture out if I know I am not going to be worn out before I get anywhere!

I have just applied for my blue badge today, how long did it take from applying to be given the badge.

Hi jenny it took 5weeks x

I sadly dont meet the criteria for a blue badge. My mobility is very poor and I’m beginning to have more bad days than good. I’m on quite a lot of medication for the Fibromyalgia and I’ve fallen a number of times because I’m so tired. I still work as a community nurse but it’s starting to become a serious struggle now :(

Hi hoopy maybe go for pip if you get higher rate mobility you get a badge .i didnt get high eate so thats why i tried council x

in reply toPatches12

I was told I wasn’t entitled to DLA as Fibromyalgia isn’t classed as a disability. I’m really starting to struggle with the pain. I feel like I’m getting robbed off by the Pain clinic. I’ve been on the same analgesia for over a year and the consultant doesn’t see a need to change my paracetamol/dihydrocodeine even although the pain is excruciating. I’ve pretty much given up fighting now as I’m not being listened to whatsoever

Hi on my blue badge form you can tuck fibro .i am waitin too c a pain management i was hopin they could help .have tou seen a rhemo to get help .personnally i thought mine was rude was in and out .ive heard they are all like that x

in reply toPatches12

I’ve had a rheumatologist for 5 years. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia nearly 3 years ago. I went through a lot of tests to get the diagnosis. Now I have it, I appear to be getting blackballed at every turn. My pain management is a joke, they don’t listen, the analgesia is a joke and they are quite happy for me to suffer by refusing to change the pain relief

Oh i feel for you .i was hopin pain clinic would help.im askin for some patches when i c my doc to see if i get a bit of relief .have they tried you on them x

in reply toPatches12

The pain clinic will put you in the analgesic ladder and your GP needs to follow it or so my consultant said, I’m on Lidocaine patches plus dihydrocodeine but it’s not effective.

I’m currently take Gabapentin, 900mg 3 times a day, celecoxib, 100mg twice a day, Amitryptiline, 100mg at night plus the painkillers and patches
