PIP assessment

Hi. Well I had my dreaded assessment a few days ago. Is the decision made by the assessor or do they take into account the info on your form? I could kick myself. I didn't tell him half of the things that were on my form and answered questions with yes or no without explaining more. I didn't mention my allergy to medications, that one of my biggest symptoms is dizziness, that yes I can shower myself but sometimes sit down in the shower and need to lie down afterwards. I told him hardly anything. I think I was worried about saying something wrong.

Hi, glad you got it out of the way and that part is done with. No the assessor makes no decisions on awards. They will write down what you tell them and what they see during rhe assessment. This is then sent to DWP to make the decision based on the assessor's report. Good luck I hope you hear back from them soon xx

Good luck and please keep us in the loop! I'm sorry you feel like you didn't get to say everything you wanted too, I know how frustrating that can be! I hope that it all goes well xxx

The assessor has a copy of your form and asks questions based on these off the computer. They ask the same questions you answered in the form but often in a different way. They use what you say in the assessment together with your form answers to see which descriptors your combined answers fit. It's their option which they think they fit and they have to say why. They make a recommendation to the dwp and usually the dwp goes along with what they say but not always. You have done your best and I know you go over everythibg you think you should have said but it will drive you nuts. You have been brave going to the assessment just fit tight now and wait for the verdict. Ask straight away for a copy of the assessors report from the DWP so that you can see what has been said by them and why to see if you agree with it. If you are not successful you can ask for Mandatory Reconsideration and tribunal if necessary. Just try to switch off and wait for their decision. Good Luck. M x

Thank you! That's good to know. I was worried they discount the form and base it just on the assessment. You're right, I need to stop overthinking it now. Thanks x
