Reflux

Not fibro related but pain related. Had yet another bout of horrid reflux this weekend, basically writing the whole weekend off.

I woke with it early Saturday morning but was unable to vomit immediately. Instead I breathed it in and entered the world of fire. Is like being waterboarded with acid, trying to breathe through a foam of acrid fire, while your tubes swell and close up, and you struggle to cough and swallow. Is frightening and takes hours to subside. Had 2 bad nights, trying to sleep banked up on pillows.

My increased naproxen is to blame, plus I neglected to take my omeprazole in a timely manner. Won't be making that mistake again as my stomach is now too vulnerable. Is the third attack in as many weeks so will be making a phone consult appt with my gp.

Have to be ultra careful with food, drink and pills until it settles properly. Meanwhile, am feeling brighter today. I no longer sound like a steam train - thank goodness for inhalers - and my voice is coming back. Strong aftertaste of bile despite eating alkaline things. Trying to balance food intake with liquid intake with painkiller etc -v- need for gaviscon advance to boost the omeprazole! Ugh 🤐

yes I know what you mean sammicat I too have gastric reflux from a hiatus hernia- I used to use Losec but was stopped due to price! Some omep are rubbish and i find they dont see me thru a day so I now need 2, even that dosnt always help. I blame all this on the prescription pricing people who have told gp,s to give out cheap versions only, false economy I say If a patients needs double./treble. I agree also naprox set mine off big time when I was tried on them for arthralgic hands- our nhs is going to the dogs, I couldnt beleive being told I could buy Losec online-£20.00 box thats a pound each!

You have my sympathy as reflux is vile. I am always careful now to make sure I have something to line my stomach before taking my meds. Like you I have Gaviscon Advance ready to top up if needed. Glad at least you are feeling a little better.x

Thank you. Have chatted with my pharmacist about how to proceed until I see my gp in 2 weeks time. She said to take Ome twice a day for now and to top up gaviscon 2 hours after eating or pills or during the night, if necessary. Likely my gp will take me off Naprox and Ome and try other drugs. I seem to change RA meds about every 5 years!
