Ok this is going to sound a bit weird but does anyone have trouble swallowing?? They chew there food but it just sits in the throat making it quite painful to go down?? I have experienced it quite a bit recently and I wonder if it's Fibro related?? Had a really rubbish day been sore sore sore!!

Very much so, I need a lot of water to get most foods down and am mostly eating yogurt now. Horrible feeling.

You have my sympathy.

Hi Macberts no not weird at all. I get this a lot. It can happen at any time & it's horible, I hate it. It makes me a bit panicky & i find it easier if I have drink. I also sometimes get cramp in my throat which I was horrified at but when I googled it, apparently it's quite common. I never heard of it before so it must be one of those things that ppl.don't talk about lol...

Sorry you have had a bad day & hope you soon feel better..

Luv Jan ☺

Hi Macberts, yes I get this quite a bit. Now when I eat a meal I make sure I have a drink to hand. The worst foodsfor me are bread, sausage roll, spaghetti, pasta shapes, and small veg like peas.

It would be worthwhile talking to your GP and being referred to a speech therapist, just to rule any other causes out I have seveal fibro friends who experience this.

Take care, let us know how you get on.

Yep, I get this now and again and like Janet I get panicky and have to cough my food back up. I'm getting much more careful about chewing my food properly as it is really horrible sensation

Yes throat issues since 2014. I can't eat without having water to wash food down and even taking meds is hard. I have seen ENT for camera down throat but told all ok. Doesn't feel like it. Feels like a marble in my throatI choke on nothing sometimes. scary.

I wonder why fibro affects our swallowing !! It's such a complicated disease 😢😢😢

Yes I think it must affect every muscle in our bodies.

Hi my friend

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you experience this issue. It is not something that I get and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to this issue. If your symptoms persist or get any worse I would talk to your doctor about it.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Yes i get this too. I also get it wen iam sleeping and wake up punching my partner as i think i cannot swollow, ive had this for years n once told by a doctor it was a panic attack during the night xx

Hi Mcberts I agree with Kens reply - go and see your GP if it carries on or becomes worse - fortunately I don't suffer with this. Take care😘

Hello ALL, yesterday I had my annual appt with Rheumatologist, I mentioned previous visit to gastro doc and had camera down, the gastro doc advised to ask about Sjorgens syndrome, and under active thyroid, he took blood for both, swallowing can be fibro or sjorgrens or both,, low saliva, sore tongue, sore gums and tooth ache are common with fibro (tongue is a muscle I believe) my throat gets tight and will only allow a small flow of solid food and sometimes drink down (no gulping that sets it off) the muscles at the back of my throat get weak and I don't, make enough saliva for moisture to swallow so much has sauce, gravy or water to help, the muscles can get sore for a few seconds if I gulp down! My voice box also gets hoarse too-I am told that can be either or both problems, I,ll let you know when the bloods and letter from Rheumo man come back.

Thanks for that's some great info there, yes can be very annoying!! I have been told I have Fibro but dermatologist thinks I may have Urtcarial Vasculitis after a nasty rash appears on my upper thighs. Anyway whatever is causing it is very annoying !!!

I have the same problem but I have always put it down to meds side effects as I am also very dry and void of saliva which would affect the swallowing.
