I was taken off this when found to be hypothyroid, many have found it helpful but you also need to be careful with diet and not overdo the fats, it can have the unfortunate laxative like effect xx

Yes do talk to your GP, before I became ill I to was classed as normal weight, I try to eat carefully but have concluded that weight gain is not all to do with diet and exercise xx

I only took 2 tablets and ended up in agony with my stomach. This wasn't because of fat as I was careful about what I ate and it also made me constipated. My GP told me to stop it immediately.

Hi my friend,

I have not tried anything of this nature but i have pasted an excerpt from a *Google search below. According to this it can be bought over the counter in the UK:

*Orlistat is a drug designed to treat obesity. It is marketed as a prescription drug under the trade name Xenical by Roche in most countries, and is sold over-the-counter as Alli by GlaxoSmithKline in the United Kingdom and the United States. Wikipedia

Molar mass: 495.735 g/mol

CAS ID: 96829-58-2

I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck if you decide to give this a try and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi Lorraine

I was prescribed Orlistat a few years ago. I managed to lose 1 1/2 stone. I would say in principle they do work. However, I had quite bad tummy ache for most of the time I took it. It does cause awful stools if you consume fat unwittingly or intentionally. In the end I stopped taking it, my doctor was happy that I did....not sure why.

I do think talking to your doctor to see if they would support you taking Orlistat (they should know if it will interact badly with any other medication you may be taking, would be the best first step xx

It was me loraine. On them now a week past on thursday. I seem ok with them. I took the vomit & di dy bug wed-thurs was very ill. Getting better slow but sure

It is a fact that not every medication suits everyone and whilst some swear by it and lose a lot of weight, it disagrees with others.

I was on it and lost about 12 lb but the side effects for me were horrendous. Even the tiniest bit of fat, like in having a little semi skimmed in one cup of tea, would have me "leaking" for several days.

You won't know how it affects you until you try it.

Good luck!

Kay

Hi Kate

I am on that much medication that's why I wouldn't buy it online or over the counter.

I will speak to my gp again in the new year as a lot of my medication has caused me to gain weight that's why when I read on the forum about someone else who was trying it is thought I would enquire about it,

As we know what works for one does not always work for another but I won't know until I give it a try.

Thank you wishing you a pain free day as possible
