Hi,

I have spina bifida n tethered spinal cord which leaves me with severe back n leg pains n have no feeling in my left leg and suffer with pains in my hands n arms as also have a wheelchair anyway it took me 2yrs to be moved as where I was it was 40 steps until I got out.

Anyway my OT told me to accept a place even if it has a shower it can be changed as a 2hour bath everyday for my legs back pain I did accept a place n moved in n wen I asked for a bath as it had a wet room n was told no as they don't consider pain management as s need of a bath n basically had the wrong disability even had 2 ot's put me through a assessment on using a bath then told no....I desperately need a bath for my pain n dignity also abit of independence can anyone help me plz

Turn2us and the Disabled grant websites have details of different charities who may be able to help with funding if the place where you live will allow you to put a bath in. Hope this helps. Could you get a supporting letter from your own OT and GP? Good luck.x

It's the O.T.'s job to make an assessment and put in place everything you need. I've had a whole load of changes, and each time the O.T. has organised it. I'm a council tenant, the council did what was necessary under instruction of O.T. Social Worker.

Terrible way to treat you. You have a disability, they must help you. There was a time some years ago, in the end I emailed my M.P. He said he had no power but would write to Chief Executive, local Council. 3 days later, guys turned up to start work. (I needed a ramp built and path widening). The guys said they had been pulled from another job and I felt sorry for whoever lost out but they said my problem was far more urgent. Sometimes it's about finding the right person to talk to.

I do wish you well. Tulip xx

Hi Cheeza76

Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are struggling to ascertain the equipment that you so desperately desire and deserve, and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to this issue.

I would have personally thought that your OC would do all of this for you? However, if they are not, then there are other avenues as suggested by rosewine and reg. You could also try your local CVS (Community Voluntary Service) who should have details of grant funds. I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi there it sounds so distressing and would add that the person who gave that advice would probably tell you not to worry in circumstances beyond your control. I know how this feels and would like to suggest a hydro pool its fantastic we have one here in Swindon, that a referral from that doctor can be gained entrance to. Fibro has its effects on us all individually but the one thing that will be the same is the toughening of the muscles that occurs over time and how they can be relaxed and relieved some using this method , really hoping this is of some help. It can even give you that "im pampering myself too " xx

Maybe the OT's conclusion is that it isn't safe for you to get into/be in/get out of the bath. They always base their advice on the safest option.

Best of luck.
