I have trouble with my hands but I know it is arthritis. If this is something you have only just noticed I would speak to your GP about it.

You can buy little silicon rubber stress balls very cheaply off of Amazon or ebay and squeezing these may help strengthen your hands.

Sending soft hugs to you too.

I too have trouble with my hands and fingers they swell up and make opening jars, etc very difficult. I got a big elastic band type thing from a friend, you get it on the internet and it helps grip the bottles and jars making it easier to open. Sorry don't have any other info about it xx

Hi Zita71

I really am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that you can find the answers that you are looking for. Unfortunately hand weakness can be caused by a myriad of medical issues including Fibro.

I have arthritis in my hands and suffer quite badly trying to open things. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I too struggle with this. I try to stretch my hand, wrist, forearm and try to work them out a little. It seems to help a little. Good luck Γ—Γ— hope it gets better.

I have this problem to and use a finger strengthening tool that guitar players use that you can get on the internet if you look up guitar magazines...I'm in the states so I hope you can find it where you're at. I'm thinking of you and hope you find relief soon.

I use a 1950s gadget that i picked up from a carboot to open jars. Trouble is it doesnt open bottles, The worst are the toilet cleaner type bottle.

I find that i have more luck with them if i hold the bottle top right up against the v formed between my forefinger and thumb so that im using my hand muscles rather than my finger bones.

I will have to find a bottle opening device sooner or later. :(

Isnt it called Alan?

Trouble is bleach bottle tops hadnt been invented in the 50s. I was in a shop once and a little old lady bought some bleach and asked the assistant to start it off for her as she couldnt open child proof tops.

Ants better hes stronger.

During my last few weeks at work i noticed that i was having more and more trouble opening the toilet cleaner. I even had to ask the manager a couple of times to open it for me. :P

Hi Hidden I have the same problem with bottles and small jars. I use my nutcrackers to open them. They are plain with two sizes of gripping curve and they work very well. Hope you can find some :)

I cant crack nuts with the scissor type crackers so i have one that is free standing. You put your nut in the bottom and then turn a screw down onto the nut. I dont think that it would work on bottle tops. :P

No, maybe not :) I have arthritis in my thumbs, wrists and some fingers but don't find my nutcrackers difficult for that job - just don't ask me to crack a nut with them! xx

Try using door jam this sometimes works. πŸ˜˜πŸ€—

That should have been addressed to Mayrose but then you can't really do that with a bleach bottle but might work for others - I have same trouble with tablets in a bottle I know they are for child friendly purposes but doesn't help us with dexterity problems - I'm even having problems with pin machines in shops - they've made the pads really hard to press down - I had a few probs last week with them and in different shops and shop assistants said they would report back to suppliers. Have a good night all. πŸ˜˜πŸ€—πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽ

Yes toilet cleaners very difficult, it may be the cheaper materials the bottles are made from causing the problem, I have wondered about that. I also have difficulty taking the little plastic top off of milk cartons. Some have a piece of plastic half across the round piece if you know what I mean and no matter how I tug I cannot seem to shift it. As said it may be to do with modern materials used as opposed to having weaker hands.

I have trouble opening bleach bottles. When in the supermarket I look at all the tops and try them before I decide which one to buy. There is one bottle which has a squeeze device which, although not easy, it is at least possible. Child-proof? These things are also adult-proof.

I have this too in fact my fibro started with my hands fingers wrists and arms , Doc thought I had carpel tunnel, went for all the tests, then I got all the other symptoms , I wS sent to neurology and they said I had generalised osteoarthritis as well as fibro. I bought one of the bottle and jar openers and a pair of scissors with teeth in the middle for small tops like water, I am always dropping things and cannot hold a pen to write, and it's hard to type as well, try the scissors for small things it works out really well for me, hope it does for you too , x

I cant open pull rings without a struggle, Ive lost count how many times that i have been covered in Mackrell and tomato sauce. Ooo just thought, i bought a couple of tins of pilchards yesterday. guess whats for dinner. :P

Yeah Mayrose I find the dog food bad to pull back so I use a screwdriver and let that do the work what's needed is something that has a hook thing on it - I bought new boots the other week and the zip is on the outside which makes pulling the zip up do I use a heavy hanger hook put it in the hole thingy me jig and pull it up - worse on right side as I had a broken ankle one time so it tends to swell there. Mmm maybe I could use a hanger hook for dog food cans - there you go - sorted not called Toolie for nothingπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ take care πŸ˜˜πŸ€—πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸŽπŸ¦ƒπŸ””

Me too Zita it appears to have gotten worse recently I gave arthritis in my neck arms and hands.

I tend to use rubber gloves but when it's too stiff I use pliers they seem to work on bottles that is - for pickle jars etc I pierce the lid to release the air and find they twist off easily if they don't rubber gloves. Take care πŸ˜˜πŸ€—

{Try turning the jar upside down and then give it a sharp tap on the floor. I have used this sometimes it works and ,as badger said, some times i use an Alan. :)

Will do Winerose thanks. πŸ˜˜πŸ€—
