I am new to this group. I only found out this week that I have fibromyalgia but have been suffering for years. At last I found a doctor that listened it has took a great weight off my shoulders. I'm not sure what I can do to help myself the pain most days is not good. I have other medical conditions as well. I don't sleep well which of late has got worse, so any advice is greatly received.

I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, but very happy that you have found us!
Your journey so far is very common amongst many of us here.
As a starting point my personal advice to you would be to learn as much as you can about Fibromyalgia. If you have a look at our webiste you will find a wealth of information on there fmauk.org
I would also suggest that you just take some time out to try to come to terms with the fact that you have a chronic illness for which there is no real help or cure.
Many people think that getting a diagnosis is where their journey ends, as it were. Unfortunately it is just the beginning.
There are a wealth of things that your GP can refer you for, some of them being Pain Clinics, Physio and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy).
Have you started any medications yet? If not, it may be a good idea to make an appointment to see your GP and ask what he can offer you.
With Fibro everything is a matter of trial and error. The problem being that Fibro is tailor made to each individual and we all suffer to varying degrees. What works for one person could potentially make another very poorly.
I don't want to swamp you with information now, but just wanted to wish you a very warm welcome to the forum
If you need any help at all navigating the forum, please give me a shout and I will be more than happy to assist.

Reckon I've had fibro for nearly 30 years..diagnosed a couple of years ago..at last a Gp who listened and sent me to a rheumatologist..
Also sent to sleep clinic.. Have severe sleep apnoea..cpap machine has soooo helped the fatigue.
I agree its a weight off your shoulders, I worried I had some terrible illness, it's not a great condition to have but better knowing so you can work out how to deal with it. I cope better with the pain now ,I know I'm not going to die any minute, hopefully! Haven't found anything that works, diclofenac has wrecked my kidneys, take the odd Tramadol, paracetamol. To get relief from Gabapentin I had to take 1200mg, which messed with my brain.
