Pain at night

Linjack profile image
8 Replies

I have been waking up because I have severe pain in my hips and the tops of my legs.It is excruciating to turn over in bed.

Also if I go shopping or just for a little walk I am unable to stand up afterwards.

I need to exercise as have been putting on weight but do not know what is best.I am in pain after everything I do.

Any suggestions?

Hi there

I think your best course of action would be to walk for a minute a day for a few days and then slowly increase the amount of minutes you are out.

Take regular pit stops if you need to.

Also swimming is great as the water will hold you and even just moving around in the water can help even if you cannot swim far.

Gentle stretching can help too.

My pain is severe 24/7. I find that the longer I stay in one place the worst my pain gets.

I need to keep moving around doing little bits here and there really helps. If I sit down for too long (like now!) I find that my backside goes numb.

Apologies for leaving you with that awful thought!! :)

I don't know which way you sleep but if you sleep on your back you might find you can get some relief from the pain by putting a cushion under your knees and if on your side between your knees it often helps me. BlueMermaid3 has given good advice about exercise little and often is the key.

Many places do what they call Extend or armchair exercises as they can really help getting strength back in the old muscles. I always do some gentle stretching exercises each morning whilst still in bed and also at night before settling down as that helps. I use those stretch bands and started with the yellow ones.

Have you asked your GP if you could get a referral to a physio for some advice. It is so difficult with fibro to exercise properly but the less we do the less our bodies seem to want to do and I have found slowly increasing my exercises from just a couple a day which were very gentle to more rigourous ones have helped. Also hydrotherapy might be an option. Do hope you find something that helps.

Hiya, sorry you are in such pain. I used to get pretty bad pain in my hips at night, but since i saw a Mctimoney chiropracter it has gone.

It might be worth seeing one of those - they are very gentle type of chiros.

Also def see your GP if you havent already, and perhaps get some antiinflammatories like naproxen. See what they think anyway. Im sure you will find something that helps. Xx

Naproxen unfortunately does nothing for me.But will check out a Mctimoney chiropractor.

My G.P has not been very helpful. He said I had to do a self referral for physio but I have an appointment with a rheumatologist in December.

All the physiotherapist did was send me some exercises to do but they hurt when I do them.

Hi Linjack

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I would talk to your doctor about this just to get other medical conditions ruled out of the equation. I undertake a daily 20 minute exercise routine that I got from my physiotherapist, maybe asking your doctor for a referral could help you? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I can relate with you. When I go shopping they usually have electric carts, if they didn't have them, I would not be able to shop. I am in sever pain at the moment. I don't want to move it hurts to much at the moment. Also don't be to hard on yourself, do what works for you. Maybe get a walker with a seat, so you can sit on it, and when your ready you can go again. I hope you feel better, Hugs

I know it sounds silly but I feel embarrassed to use a mobility scooter.Everyone here in Lowestoft seems to be using one now.

Even just using a stick makes me feel conspicuous. My husband thinks I can do everything but he does not realise how much pain I am in which upsets me.

I am so sorry for your pain, try not to be embarrassed by using a cart, shop in comfort, never be ashamed of what others may say, that's their problem. You have to do what is in your best interest. Have a sitdown with your husband and tell him how much pain your in, people don't know how hard it is to live in constant pain. I wish I could hug you. Your beautiful, and worth every good thing!!!!
