My OH doesn't have Fibromyalgia, has Sero Negative Arthritis and Chyluria. Has had Shingles in the 'trigeminal nerve' 4 times now, so now gets the meds to keep at home ready, and the jab is pointless.

Unfortunately, that nerve is the main one from the mouth that carries all the taste messages to the brain. As food and especially wine are major hobbies for us both, she has had to teach another nerve to take over. It's taken about 2yrs, but her palette is almost as good as it was.

Hi Hayesider wow thats awful...the pain and discomfort of shingles is bad enough but to lose your taste as well....im so happy her palette is nearly normal again. Mine is in the spinal nerve and the pain affects my right groin and leg. I too didnt find the jab or the medicines any good and it took me ages to get it diagnosed properly because of the belief amongst some Drs that you cant get it more than once!.....Thanks for the reply xx

Shingles started off my fibro symptoms but I haven't had it since - fingers crossed :D How often do you have it? That's really unfair to dump shingles on you as well as fibro. Gentle hugs. Anna xxx

Thanks for the hugs Anna ! It varies but mostly 4 times a year. I have had them for as long as i can remember ,and i know two other people who get them as well and one of those also has fibro.....but its seems when they re reoccurring they start early on in childhood /youth so i dont think you have any worries of them returning xxx

That may not be so, unfortunately. I had chicken pox (same virus) very badly when I was 19. xxx

I had shingles at 24, it maybe that it caused the fibro although it is also thought that I already had fibro. I then had shingles 34 years later, in the same nerves, it's now thought that I've had it all that time as what was thought to be pain in the Trapezium and associated with fibro was where the shingles occurred :-(
