Hi there, This sounds more like neuralgia pain imo . I am sure your poor son in law will be feeling tired through lack of sleep caused by such awful pain in the face. I must ask the question though when did dentist's start diagnosing Fibro !! May I suggest if his dentist thinks it is fibro he may be better having a word with his doctor. I have had fibro for over 30 years and suffered with facial pain but it was always due to other reasons never heard it attributed to Fibro. But we learn something new everyday. I hope he can find some relief from his suffering very soon.

cheers for your interest, my son-in-law knows he has fibro after years of mis diagnosis, his dentist knows too I am guessing that's why he suggested its fibro related.. His g.p is a joke! I have suggested he come with me to hydro pool and the specialist physio (who incidently asked me of I get fascial pain) and hopefully get some real help to calm his symptoms down, we go on Wednesday for his first visit..

In MPS the M is Myofascial which causes the confusion when we scan read.

Hi I get the bad migraine, and also pain in my Jaw, it feel like cramp, but very painful, and it goes up into my ear. My dentist also said the same Fibro. I hope his pain eases for him to manage.x

I woke this morning with a horrible spring pain into my right ear. Through some stretching and rubbing of my shoulder and neck muscles it has calmed it some and am in less pain, though it is still there. It might be different then yours but it may help. :)

I haven't heard of it to be quite honest. You haven't said exactly how the pain affects the poor man but some years back I had trigeminal neuralgia which caused sharp, shooting pains down my face especially when there was any change of temperature. It is totally exhausting. My boss had it as well and she was affected just as badly. It is just a thought. Do hope he can get some answers.x

That's the pain I had really sore to touch not had it for awhile though thank God ☺x

Hi

I do. I've always suffered from migraines, but I get them every day with the fibro and through my skull, jaw and ears. I am on migraine tabs for the headache, but they have given me nothing for the other pains.

I am sorry I can't help.

Good luck and I'd be very interested if he's given anything for it.

yes i have it is usually called temporal mandibular jaw pain or the other one is trigemenial neuralgia which is an absolute agonising pain in your face both come from behind your ear one is the jaw joint first one and the other is the nerve that runs from there and this goes up to your eyebrow and branches down to chin. The only thing i found effective in treating it is pregabalin.

I have TMJ too Hidden , I think that maybe it is more likely to be this - try looking up the symptoms to see if they match up :)

pregabalin (lyrica) is actually used for Fibromyalgia and TMJ or temporal mandibular joint jaw pain is also one of the symptoms you actually get with Fibromyalgia.

Hi Caz

As you know I've had Fibro/CFS for 30 years. I have never known neuralgia to be associated with Fibro before.

Just speaking from my own experiences. I am not making a factual statement.

He tells me its not toothache.its muscle pain causingthe nerve pain! His dental surgeon has stated. He has given him a shield to wear when he is stressed on his bottom teeth.I am hoping the physio will help him next week.this has been you going on for over a year, his father died young and his mother murdered last year.he has been thru the mill plus 2 trys at I.v.f with my daughter..

I meant neuralgia, as in face pain. I don't doubt it's not tooth ache.

The mouth guards are very good xx

hi i am just asking out of curiosity but does his jaw make clunky noises? I do recommend the pregabalin if it agrees with him, been on it 10 years for my jaw pain.

in reply to

No it doesn,t Sasha the dentist had a good investigation and xrays- I am almost sure its all stress related, tense muscles, he has had a lot to contend with over 2 years, his younger brother has counselling to help him, they both bite their nails!! Sometimes "other therpaies" can find answers and I am hoping the physio who does my hydro will help him.

Hi Hidden , has he ever had his nose or jaw broken or injured?

The reason I'm asking is that I too suffered from bad ear and facial pain (right hand side) The dentist gave me a gum guard as he thought it was caused by me grinding my teeth in my sleep!

Anyway, in the end I had a procedure called Septorhinoplasty (nose job) to you and me lol This indeed helped a million!!

I still wear a ear plug when I shower as the odd twinge pops up now and again. Water and ears are not the best of pals lol

Has he been referred to a myofacial specialist?

He needs to know for sure what is going on, this seems rather unfair.

I do he finds some closure very soon! :) xx

Ok. I may be dealing with the same. Mine are muscle problems, tight muscles. I rub them and that seems to help. I have been using magnesium oil for maybe close to a week and I can tell it is helping some but still have last of pain all over my head neck shoulder, then those seem to also be connected to tight muscles all over. From what I can tell I have a magnesium deficiency, which cause muscle to try to remain in the contracted state, and can take up to a year to get your magnesium levels back to normal, from what I read.

It also helps to stretch the shoulders and neck to loosen the face muscles.

I do hope he finds relief soon.

Good luck.

I have hempilegic migraines. It makes the side of my face and arm numb and (painful at the side time). Is it pain or numbness? I take a beater blocker to prevent daily migraines. I do have the odd one but nothing compared to before I took it!

Maybe discuss with your doctor?

Hope he feels better soon!

Clumsy 👍

Hi my friend,

I am so genuinely sorry to read that your brother is experiencing this and I have to agree with many of your other respondents as it does sound more like TMJ / TMD to me? I sincerely hope that he can find some resolution to this issue my friend.

Al my hopes and dreams for you

like mydexter below, Ive never hear it called that before but do suffer from facial pain, like you son it hits my teeth so I cant chew or ought, {soup is boring let me tell you} different from tooth ache, it actually swops teeth and which side is hurt, and yes it does feel like a migraine pain and a bit like sinus pain, right into the jaw, I find mine lasts around 3 or 4 days, again the Tramadol doesnt help, I find plain paracetamol is best, and a warm hot water bottle, but I guess everyone is different, all in all, its a B...H. This doesnt feel very helpful, but its my experience with it, I've just gotten over an attack of it, so sympathy to your son. Dont think it has a trigger like migraine so I dont think its avoidable. Regards Lyzzie x

Hi, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in June 2018 by a rheumatologist, I get neuralgia regularly had it long before I was diagnosed, I also get a lot of headaches and migraines, the migraines can last for days and completely wipe me out, I also get tingling/numbness and pins and needles now and then in roughly a quarter of my head/skull but I’ve not had it for a fair while now touch wood lol, I personally think the neuralgia is a symptom of fibromyalgia x
