I'm being driven nuts at the moment ( even more nuts than normal I hear you all yell !! ) by tinnitus, it's changed from the bout I had earlier in the year, now it is so high pitched and is really really annoying me.

Right, rant over.......please forgive.......

You listen loads to us Foggy so if there was anything to forgive you would be forgiven. I have slight tinnitus and that's irritating so I feel for you, hope it goes soon.

Hi foggy will you please STOP apologising, you have every right to complain as we all do, you always there for us and listen to us, so you complain or moan away there all you like and we will listen, I have tinitus badley in both ears, its so loud I sometimes cant hear much else, went up the hosp recently to ENT to see if they could do anything, they cant of course, but what they did give me is what they call a pacifier to use at night when its quite and the nice is worse, cos theres no other noise to drown it out a bit, it looks like a clock but takes a small card which plasy nature sounds ie surf waves, rain, rapids, streams birds ect, and it does help a little, you can buy them, the only time i can really ignore the noise is when im talking and of course when your you own as you know theres not a lot u can talk about is there lol, anyways enough of my rambling on hope yu have better day tomorrow, sending gentle hugs to you and noises of the streams and birds singing....Dee xx

Carolinee71 in reply toCookie72

You can get the same thing to drown out the noise in your eyes , they are quite a few app's that have the different noises on them, the sea, wind , rain, meadows, morning birds etc most come with at least 6 noises and the ones I found were free ( this is only helpful if u have an apple product, iPhone, iPad, iPod etc) good luck with it though as I have it too but for me only at certain times it is a horrible thing to have

Love Caroline xx

Poor you :( I only get it occasionally and it doesn't last for long. I'm sure it would drive me nuts if I did. Maybe you could sing some opera to tune in with it, or maybe a bit of Kate Bush ;) I jest, but I know it's not nice at all. Hope it goes soon Foggy.

You're not complaining... you're letting off steam (and that could cause tinnitus in itself... visualising whistling kettle) and getting it out of your system. We all do it Foggy so no apologising! ;) ;) :) xx

I also have the high pitched tinnitus in both ears. The GP checked my hearing and it still came out better than theirs! *lol* :D The noise is beyond irritating though so I fully sympathise. How nice would a bit of blessed silence be. :)

And complain away, I bloody do so why the hell can't you! :p

P.

Foggy!!

Consider yourself well and truly sent to the naughty step.

NOT for complaining, or ranting, but for apologising.

You're not selfish in the slightest.

I know you would be one of the first to agree that this site is a safe haven for ALL of us to have our rants, moans, etc., and to support each other.

I very rarely have my tv on because I can't stand background noise. It drives me nuts.

I'm sorry to hear it's been bad for you today.

We are all here for each other ~ so no more apologising madam

I love the fact that we all suffer annoyingly yet we all hear each other so perfectly well here :) :) :)

fluffies for everyone xxxzebxxx

Hugs. I get it too. Listening to white noise really helps. Put your radio off station and listen, it helps.

I've had it for years...I've tried to teach myself not to listen to it and try and concentrate on some thing other than the high pitched noise in my head that just never goes away.It isn't going to go away so rather than letting it slowly drive me nuts I just think of it as 'someone', I can't stand the sound of and do my best too ignore it.....just like football when it's on the tele.....lol

Fibrofoggiest profile image
Fibrofoggiest in reply torosaann52

Now that's a good analogy, think of it like football to ignore.....hmmm. I had a bout of it earlier in the year, it was much louder but less high pitched, it's the pitch that's really getting to me. Anyway all thoughts to you too and I'm grateful to you for your advice. :-)

Hi everybody. I'm a newbie! Is there a link between tinnutis and fibro then?? I'm still waiting firm diagnosis from consultant who seems to resent my presence! Initially diagnosed with lupus SLE but now he thinking I also, or perhaps even instead of, I do actually have fibro and CFS??? Would love comments on any or all of these.

Thanks guys.

Fibrofoggiest profile image
Fibrofoggiest in reply tolynzard

Welcome lynz, I'm not sure, but there seem to be quite a few people with both, but then my dr said that most people experience tinnitus at some point in their lives.

I'm sorry you've been landed with a consultant who isn't great. However you have come and found us here and we are a friendly and knowledgeable bunch, I hope we can give you the help and support you need, what ever your diagnosis finally is. I don't have a huge amount of knowledge about lupus and its links to fibro, but I think there will be people here who do. If I were you I'd create a post asking for people to help you with this, go to the top of the page and hit the yellow create post button and go from there.

I hope this forum can do as much for you as it has and does for me.

All the very best

Thank you so much for your lovely reply along with the advice on how to use this 'site/forum' !! I got on google and there are links with tinnitus and fibro. Think mine is as a result of the mennieres disease I have. You take care and I hope you get some peace.

Thank you lynz (is it ok to call you that or would you prefer lyn?), are you being treated for Ménière's with a drug called Serc? I ask as I handled the advertising account for it eons ago, in a previous life haha..... Anyway, I hope you improve and get help here that you need :-)

Oh forgot to say - no don't use serc (don't work for me) use stemetil as and when. What a small world we live in huh! Most people haven't even heard of it let alone know what meds to use! :)

It's helpful to 'hear' that others are also suffering this annoying rather than painful condition. I am just grateful I don't have the ear pain I had when I first experienced this condition.

If I'm busy, although its there, its less of a problem. I often have the tv on whilst I do other things like go on here! But at night I use my work iPad and listen to meditation sites which use background music whilst they talk you through relaxing. Take a look on Podcasts - there are a wide variety of radio programmes etc there too which may be of interest. I use soft earplugs now as the headphones became uncomfortable. I do get to a point when I have to remove them, but I'm so sleepy I fall asleep again anyway. Hope some of this helps someone.

Currently its not too bad and sometimes goes. I hope it stays away the next time.

Fibrofoggiest profile image
Fibrofoggiest

Thank you Sarah-Jane, yes, I might try out my iPad with soothing sounds, or even try to find some white noise there to see if it helps. You are very kind to respond and I really do appreciate everyone's concern !

No I didn't jess, it just made me think how lucky I am not to have had for as long as her, so I should stop whingeing when others have much more to deal with than I do. Please, no offence meant or taken I hope :-) :-)

Hi All Tinnitus Sufferers!! I didn't realise there was so many people who also get this horrible condition too! It's another one of those times when you're glad that you've found this site & that you're not alone with your health problems! I have asked my hubby to get some Hopi candles to try & see if they will help. Hubby worked away the other night & my tinnitus was louder than ever as it wasn't blocked by his sleep apnoea breathing mask noises. Couldn't get to sleep because of it! And now hubby thinks it was because I missed him!!

Fibrofoggiest profile image
Fibrofoggiest in reply toJulie63

Exactly Julie, I've been a member for quite some time now, despite a few hiccups round the platform change, which of course is now completely sorted ...hoorah ! I had a bout of tinnitus earlier in the year and I thought that was bad, it was a much lower pitch than it is now, some of the stress which I think was not helping the situation eased and so did the tinnitus eventually. Now it's come back with a vengeance and as you say, it's incredible how many people are suffering the same thing. can I ask what Hopi candles are, I haven't heard of them (being a bear with very little brain) and what do they do.

Hehe sorry, but funny that your hubby put your bad night down to his absence not because the sound of his appliance helps block your tinnitus sounds.

I hope if you do get the candles that they work for you, I would be so interested to hear what you think, also could you tell me if they have a smell as I have to be careful because smells can trigger migraines big time for me. Take care :-)

Hi Foggy, Hopi candles are like long tubes of wrapped around paper-ish like material that is put into your ear while you are lying down & then my hubby for example, lights the end of the 'candle' & as it burns it draws out the wax from your ears, giving them a clear out, if you see what I mean? The other person watches as the 'paper' burns down to a marked level & then takes it out of your ear. I haven't described them very well, but it's amazing to see how much wax is inside once you've put out the candle & unravel it. I am hoping that it will help & will let you know how I get on with them this time.

And does it make a considerable difference to the tinnitus ? I'd have a problem using them tho as I live alone, I'd have to try and train one of my terriers to insert them and take them out hehehehe........ possibly a non-starter, drat !

If they are really good tho I could ask a friend, but I need to know about the smells side of things too. thanks for your reply, you are so kind.

Julie63 profile image
Julie63 in reply toFibrofoggiest

No problem Foggy, glad if I could help. There's not really much smell to them, just the smell of burning a little, but not too strong, they're not scented with anything. If your tinnitus is caused by an excess or build up of earwax, then getting a clear out like this would / could help ease the tinnitus.

If only you could get one of your dogs to help you with it, you would have to get a photo of it, it would be a You Tube Hit!! (He He!!)
