No you don't have to reapply for benefits. Be warned though it is colder in Scotland than elsewhere in the country. We have had heavy rain for the past two days and it's set to rain till the beginning of next week. Makes my Fibro /arthritis pain much worse.

Good luck with the move xx

Where are you thinking of moving to in Scotland?

Members like Gins seem to have moved the other way Scotland to England. I know from someone who moved up to Scotland that there was more free travel and prescriptions. Why don't you go on the Scottish Citizens Advice website or Gov.Uk where there are options to say where you live.

I know there has been talk about Scottish parliament taking different benefit functions into their control rather than under the control of Westminster but to my knowledge that hasn't happened yet. Do hope someone comes along who can help in more detail?

No! Believe it or not Scotland is part of the U.K. You wouldn't pay prescription charges any more either. 🐸

I get free prescriptions anyway, I know that due to everyone having free prescriptions that there are less nurses, and that is from someone who was working in your nhs

Not heard that one! Our NHS is the same as yours. Where are you moving to?

Actually no your nhs is controlled by Edinburgh, that's why you get free prescriptions and not England, at the moment possibly back to dunfermline

The funding yes, but I'm afraid there is way too much propaganda on why the NHS is stretched. Be it in Scotland or England. It is basically the same beast. Queen Margarets hospital has a good reputation so you should be OK. I have a couple of nursing friends who work there. Dunfermline is getting so big now! I can't get over the number of new houses that are going up. I've been thinking of moving back to Fife myself, but can't at the moment 🐸

My info comes from a senior nhs friend, so I know it's not propaganda. I have worked in all of dunfermlines hospitals many years ago.

If this helps I have just read this on the Benefit and Works site:-

Devolution dividend

It’s hard for claimants to find much to be optimistic about right now.

The Scottish parliament has just announced a package of measures which, within the limited scope they have for making changes, should improve the lot of many sick and disabled claimants. They include promises to:

" reform the assessment procedures to ensure they work for the people claiming disability benefits”, including setting clear timeframes for assessments, decisions and appeals and ensuring that claimants are not repeatedly assessed if they have a long-term condition that is unlikely to change;

ensurethat disability benefits are increased at least in line with inflation and are not means-tested;

allow any child in receipt of disability living allowance to continue receiving it until they reach 18 years old if they wish, to reduce the stress of transferring to personal independence payment;

extend winter fuel allowance to children on higher rate disability living allowance;

increase carers allowance by £600 a year so that it is paid at the same rate as jobseeker’s allowance.

Sounds like we should get a good deal then. Will be very interesting to see if it comes to fruition. I'm very sceptical myself! 🐸

Hope it does work out for you all as everything bit of help is welcome. I especially like the bit about carers as I think they save the country so much money for so little reward. They often ruin their own health caring for those they love as well.x

Yes thought I had seen something, could work either way, at the end of the day there is a limited budget

Hi

Sorry I can't help with that.

I want to wish you good luck with your move, in jealous. I'm Scottish and married a southerner who won't move up there.

Where are you moving to, if you don't mind me asking?

Best wishes.
