Hi - Sorry you've had a disappointing time at the pain clinic. I found there were two types of clinic here. The pain clinic was really just about medication, although the doctor there did suggest that I go back to my GP to ask for a referral to a physio and on to hydrotherapy. But there's also the pain *management* clinic. That was a different place where they put me on an 8 week course with other patients and we talked about different ways to cope, etc. So it may be that you went to a pain clinic and that you now need to ask your doctor for a referral to pain management? I take it it's the course where they talk about different options that you're looking for?

Hi there

I was just about to say that you have probably been to the Pain Clinic and not the Pain Management Clinic.

I know that they sound ridiculously the same.

As has been said the Pain Clinic manage what meds you're on and the Pain Management Clinic helps you to understand pain, how it affects the body and offers courses you can do.

Apart from my electro acupuncture which has now ceased on the retirement of the pain consultant I was very disappointed with my clinic. I had expected the first consultation to be quite lengthy and in fact the nurse had not even finished filling in my details before specialist breezed in took over, a few quick questions, note to doctor to prescribe some cream and a promise of the acupuncture, nothing else was offered. I did get some advice on painkillers if I pressed but unfortunately the things recommended made me worse. The advice on what to do or not was "try to get someone else to do anything that is painful or wear you out" well that covers most things and try not to do too much in one go. Of course I now have no further appts so even that limited help has gone. I got more treatments prescribed by going to see a physio.

Signed up with a new doctor as we have moved and it seems worse than my old as the first appts. are Saturday and not with my named doctor. You cant even book ahead for next week, grhh!!!

So sorry that it has been a disappointment for you as we build all our hopes around these appts and it is soul destroying to have them dashed. You have my heartfelt sympathy.

I'm so sorry you're feeling so down.

Would it be possible for you to ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Management Clinic?

There could be a fairly long wait but I've heard and read so many good reports about them.

Try to keep your chin up. Easier said than done I know.

Wishing you well

Hi 233019

I am so genuinely sorry to read that your appointment was an anticlimax for you, and I sincerely hope that your increased medication works well for you. My wife has been watching quite a few of these vet reality shows recently and she keeps saying that I should take her to the vets instead as they are so nice and caring! I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you
