Sounds like a carpal tunnel problem where the nerve running through the wrist is restricted. I had surgery last week for this problem.
Hello Louisa,
I'm so sorry you are having this problem with your hand. It does sound rather like it could be something like carpal tunnel, but I would strongly urge you to speak to your doctor next week and get his/her advice as we are not medics and can only give advice based on our own experience.
I really hope you manage to find the cause and resolve your problem very soon, and am sending positive vibes your way 😊
Foggy x

I too have CTS, carpal tunnel in the left, and both carpal and ulnar in the right, I had diagnosis in 2004 by a hand specialist doctor - did nerve studies.
My symptoms are occasional numbness in my hands but no pins and needles. But my hands get soo cold. The doctors want me to get the surgery soon. I'm saying no so far. That's just because I hate the idea of someone cutting into me. People have said they have about 60% good benefits.
But definitely talk to your doctor. When I saw the rheumatologist, he said I should get it done if I get a flattening effect on my palms. I can't remember if he told me (or someone else) that if I can no longer pick up a quarter from a surface, then it's time.
I hope you get good advice, whether it's CTS or not.
The typical description of neuropathy is pain, tingling and numbness. Included in there is pins and needles which I think of as a form of tingling. There are some other odds and ends of feelings that don't quite fit in perfectly with the words I've given you. It's still neuropathy, usually due to impingement of nerves in your cervical neck area. I suppose you could also have some nerve impingement at the wrist, like carpal tunnel, but I'm not sure if you'd get these symptoms you're describing. A neurologist could tell you, maybe after an exam or with additional imaging tests.
I'm on gabapentin/neurontin which has relieved most of my symptoms. I also practice keeping my posture as I've been shown, with my shoulders back and neck straight. There are some exercises that go with this to help keep my posture in the correct way so I'm not cutting off these nerves as I have some disc problems there. The herniated and bulging discs are not uncommon.
As for the carpal tunnel, when you're working at the computer, you want to have the angle of your hand to be upward from your wrist as you type, and not the opposite. If you correct this, you may notice a good difference right away. That could mean you're not far along in the damage to your wrist. If there is no angle at all, your arms and hands are very much on the same level, that I don't know, that may be just fine. I wish you the best of luck finding a solution.
I'm similar to SueSz - hands tingling, pins and needles, numb, painful, mine also feel very cold and swollen often though they are not. I'm newly diagnosed but thinking i had carpal tunnel syndrome is what led me to the GP a year ago. It is fibro with severe neuropathic symptoms (not just my hands) so I am also prescribed neurontin - no success with it yet but still on escalating dose. Symptoms seem the same but can overlap with other conditions and are experienced differently by people so best to always seek medical advice. Good luck!
I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling in this way, and I would definitely discuss this with your GP or Medical Specialist as to see what it could be as there are so many possibilities? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with this issue and please take care of yourself.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi all, I have this condition, doc sent me for tests they thought it was carpel tunnel, but the results said not, I was told it is part of fibromyalgia, it hurts though, most days I can't even type or do a shopping list, I only got given pain killers they don't work though.i figure I just have to put up with it , but hope yours can be sorted for you. Happy new year x
thank you clio123 it is most debilitating and depressing lovely of you to reply
My hands frequently tingle. I have cervical stenosis where my nerves in my neck are being compresses but I also have carpal tunnel problems in both hands. I had my right had operated on for carpal tunnel release. My surgeon said the she hadn't seem such badly squashed nerves before! I was surprised as the pain was not that bad. Six months on and I notice very little difference in the tingling. I no longer have the nerve pains though, they used to shoot up my thumb and first finger. I should get my left hand done but I need someone at home to help me for the first week after surgery. That is more of a problem than the carpal tunnel as my hubby works abroad and I can't schedule the op.
See what your GP has to say, but be prepared to see a hand specialist, a plastic surgeon here.
Wishing you well with the problem 🐸
I get this every morning when I wake up, and also during day for no reason, told my Doc and she just looked at me?, mine starts from top outside of my armall the way down into hand.
thank you blue 52 do you have fibromalgia too I am thinkiing the hand part is carpel tunnel but not confirmed. thanks again
Might be worth asking for your B12 levels to be tested. When they get low, pins & needles, numbness and pain can be symptoms. MariLiz
