Hello. I'm a newbie to the site. I wonder if someone could put my mind at rest? I've been on 200mg of Sertraline for the past 14 years following a major work related breakdown. I've always been a bit concerned as I understand this is the max dose. I'm now having problems with chronic pain so my GP as today prescribed Amitrip: 10mg to start. Has anyone had experience of this "cocktail"? At the moment I take 100mg of Sertraline in the morning & the other at night. I've been told to take the Amitrip at night to help with sleeping so should I take 200mg Sertraline in the morning. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Davewm,
We are really only able to give advice from our own experience as we are not medics. As such, without in any way wishing to undermine you I really think you should check either with your GP, but of course it's now the weekend, so I wonder if you could get some professional advice from a pharmacist, as if we were to advise you wrongly and you had a nasty reaction we would be culpable.
This doesn't mean in any way that were aren't here to support you, we most certainly are, but when it's with regards to specifics of medication we really do have to point you back to the professionals!
Sending lots of positive healing vibes your way, and I really hope that your new medication gives you the help with sleep that you need, and amitripyline is very helpful with this.😊😊

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling so much and I sincerely want to wish you all the best of luck. As Foggy says we cannot really comment on drugs that we have never taken and I have never used either of these medications. I must admit however that 14 years on an antidepressant seems a long time to me? I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Not sure about the mix, but it is not uncommon, 10mg amytyptiline is a start dose for fibro and normally news to be higher to be effective pairwise. It can make people sleep which is why it is advised for night, though I would take it an hour before going to bed.
The chemists know about drug interactions so they certainly would be able to advise generally.
I take my sertraline in the morning together and my ami at night x the combination works well for me x
Hi I have been taking 150 mg sertraline every morning and 150 mg amatrip at night for the last year and am still on all this, I have no side affects at all.
Thank you all for your comments.
