Blue badge assessment

I am going for an assessment soon and am dreading it. Have any of you had one that can tell me what to expect? I would be most grateful. Hope you are all having a good day.

I can't say what it's like but can I ask how long you have had to wait for this because I submitted an application to my local council over 3 months and still haven't heard anything from them.

I'm sorry I don't have personal experience of this and I hope some people who have will come and give you advice. However I do know of a friend who has a blue badge and I will ask her about it and come back to you. Wishing you all the very best anyway 😀😀

Hi I got my pip and haven't yet put in for blue badge. Can I ask how many points did you get?

I am retired aged 71 so pip is not available for me. I would have to claim Attendance Allowance which I haven't done yet. I have worked until I was 67 and have full support of my GP but apparently that's not enough! You couldn't make it up, could you????

Hi, ive been told if you get pip standard mobility + you get a blue badge without assessment. You just have to send them a copy of your scoring sheet received frim dwp. Good Luck with any application. Ive applied and just tosend in forms. Im a bit confused with this whole system i must say for cfs/me and fibro disability though i must say as because days are variable there are days i can walk more than 50m and others i cannot put one foot in front of the other. The whole process is rubbish from having pain and disability in the first place, then having to justify your condition to people who do not have a clue and frankly do not care!! Xx

I filled in a straight forward form explaining that I also had osteoarthritis and that the 2 conditions together made walking very painful for me. By the renewal date I had the mobility rate of dla and that made it an atomic renewal. If you don't have pip or dla then it's useful to have a letter from your doctor explaining how fma limits your movement and energy levels. Good luck.

Thank you. It's because I haven't claimed anything else that you have to jump through hoops, I think. I have sent a letter from Dr re fibro a MRS scan result showing osteo arthritis and spondylolethis of spine and dexa scan showing osteoporosis. I find it all very embarrassing that I have to go to an independent dr for an assessment. Apparently this is normal procedure !

hi Crackers you don't have an assessment for a blue badge if your getting full DLA you just apply for a blue badge and send them a copy of you DLA form you get, photo, within the last six months, copy of your driving licence or a bill with your name and that's it hope this helps Alan

Yes, I know big alas but I am not getting full DLA. I am retired and not on any benefits. This is the first thing I have applied for and they have given me an appointment to be assessed by an independent Dr. I have already given them results of my MRS Scan and Dexa scan and supporting letter from Dr. But that's not enough, apperently. As someone who worked full time until I was 67 and have never claimed one penny from the state I find it distressing that I have to nearly beg for a parking spot.

I have arthritus in my hip and cannot walk far.I didnt apply for the motobility payment I just needed to be able to walk without distress. You just make an appointment with the library and a health worker will interview you. I provided a letter from the hospital or doctor and had my badge within 7 days.You only go through the eliminating questionnaire if you are claiming the motobility allowance. I am75,

I had assessment for my Blue Badge a couple of years ago. It didn't take long. They asked me about my symptoms and medication, then took me outside and asked me to walk the length of the building - stopping if I needed to. I stopped twice then somehow managed to trip up and fell flat on my face. I had to be helped up, but I did get the badge

Wow i'm so glad I joined this group. Things have sure changed since my day. I can not remember going through any assessment for my blue badge. Maybe me been a wheel chair user and been on high mobility rate was why I only needed to fill in a form.I wish you luck and hope you don't have any falls. I hope you get the badge they are so helpful when you suffer with pain and need to be as close as you can get to be where you need to be.

Hi, you don't say if the assessment is for the blue badge or is it the pip. The assessment for pip is to see how you cope day to day ( I'd if you can manage to do things without help ) I am assuming it is pip, and if you get the award the letter will tell you what you are entitled to including a blue badge. When you get accepted you then take the letter to your local council office and they will post a blue badge out to you. Good luck and don't stress x

I had to go for an assessment because my LA wants recent letters from hospital specialists to get a badge without the assessment. A GP's letter is no good.

Anyway, I was asked questions about my condition, how it started, what the symptoms were etc and then taken for a short walk round the building before a decision was made. Thankfully I got the badge and the walk turned out to be 100m which had been measured out beforehand.

The assessor missed nothing, from me walking in the door to leaving and paid particular attention to my footwear, which is always flat and sensible. She did ask what I would use a badge for and seemed happy to hear it was for getting easier access for medical appointments and for going to the gym or swimming. For going shopping was not the correct answer, something she made her feelings known about very clearly. Good luck, it has made a huge difference to me.

Hi there,

I now receive a blue badge as I get high rate DLA, but when I first applied for one I never had mobility problems it was a bowel disease. Crohns Disease. I had a letter confirming it from my consultant explaining how without the badge, it was near on impossible to get out and about, because of the stress of needing to use the toilet.

I wouldn't imagine at your grand age needing a blue badge would be too much of a problem really.
