Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for a while, I've just had a gastric bypass and when I put on here previously that I was having the op a lot of members asked about it.
I have waited a year for it and I have had some emotional ups and downs. It was meant to been on the 24th of sept but was cancelled two days before but went ahead 8th October. I was 12 stone overweight and had to do something about it and surgery seemed the answer. I have arthritis as well as fibro, doctors have told me that weight loss won't improve the fibro but will help with the arthritis pain.
I had the op Thursday morning and was put back on the ward, it was a lot more painful than I expected. I was told to take my medication in with me only to be told that they could not give it to me because it included morphine tablets and liquid. I was given paracetamol and anti sickness medication through a drip, but it didn't touch the pain. The op seemed to trigger my fibro and I was in agony from head to toe and ended being awake all night.
I was sent home on Friday afternoon and all seemed fine, I managed to catch up on my sleep and Saturday morning got up, had a shower and felt great.
Saturday afternoon the pain started in my stomach and the nausea was terrible so I ended back up in hospital for the night and came out again on Sunday afternoon.
It's a week after the op and I feel almost pain free and have a feeling of being full and I'm re starting my food habits.
I just wanted to update the many members who contacted me regarding my first post.
Bye all xxxx

Well done , I have put 3 stone on since this hit 5 years ago , and I now it's going to increase , and can't exercise, so frustrating that they let things go far with us till we need operations to sort things out , ,I wish you all the luck in the world with it , have you taken a before photo ? You should post us regular updates so we travel your journey with you , it would be really interesting to follow !
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I am so genuinely delighted to read that you had your operation at last. I am so sincerely sorry to read that you have suffered and struggled as a result of this but hopefully it will settle down shortly.
I find it amazing these days that hospitals do not allow certain painkillers to be used whilst you are admitted. My wife has Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, and during a recent stay in hospital they only gave her Paracetamol and I was quite disgusted with this to be honest.
Anyway, I digress! I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
Hi Ken, I really feel that hospitals just don't understand how difficult our lives are with these invisible illness, we take our meds to keep us plodding along not because we feel like it. I understand how difficult it was for you too leave your wife in hospital without her being able to use her meds because I watched how much it was worrying my husband. They ask us to take our mess in but don't allow us to take them, I was also just given paracetamol and it didn't touch my pain. I will keep you posted on how the weight loss goes.
All the very best Pennie. It's not a easy journey, but it's worth it. Keep up with your fluids, sip sip sip and sip some more. It truly makes a difference x
Hi judge, I'm feeling much better now and it's only the odd twinge that reminds me that I've had it done !!!!! Since Saturday I've been having a low fat yoghurt for breakfast and a 1/3 of a tin off tomato soup for lunch and teatime and I'm drinking plenty of fluids, this is working very well for me. I'm taking my multi vitamins, I'm off to look for a blender and from Thursday I can blend ordinary healthy cooked meal and have a go at making smoothies. Thank you so much for your support and advice xxxxx
Hi, I searched for weight loss surgery and your post came up. I hope 2 years down the line all is well! I'm seriously considering a gastric bypass myself, possibly abroad, it's scary but think it'll be a big help. xx
