PAIN CLINIC WASTE OF TIME

hi all was diagnosed with fibro last year by GP have tried numerous meds but they either cause more problems or simply dont work.I know this may sound odd but since we have had cooler weather pain levels have dropped and i feel comfortable dealing with level of pain.Anyway after seeing doctor at pain clinic who had never heard of pain being less during cold weather ( I must be only one in country !!! lucky me ) was told if things ever again get worse take steroids.He seemed very disinterested in fibro and said he thought i had arthritis but couldnt prove it ?????? funny how you look forward to these appointments because we all are desperate for the right help only to be totally crushed and put back to where we started not knowing what or where to go next

Hi Hun you probably got someone who knows B*** all about fibro and there are many in the NHS, have you seen a rheumatologist at all?

hi yes it was rheumatology who referred me to pain clinic as she said there was nothing she could do.

I can only say go back to Rheumatologist and try another day at pain clinic and ask your consultant to insist on a specialist who knows what you have and can deal with it.

Very frustrating for you. Unfortunately I had the same experience .

I am on Gabapentin now. I can honestly say that since I have been put on the Gabapentin, I have lost all my pains the stiffness have improved tremendously.

So sorry you have had such a bad experience. As you say we really build our hopes up for these appointments only to have them dashed. I mean what sort of comment is that e is supposed to be the expert, if you have arthritis what sort they only usually give steroids for the inflamatory kind. What are you going to do now?x

Hi collipops, sorry you had to go to the pain clinic. It is well named - you go in with pain and you come out with it plus a pain in the bum! I found it unhelpful to put it mildly - lots of meds including powerful morphine based stuff. Wont take it - it does not cure but causes addition. Some conditions will be helped at this clinic, they do their best but fibro is a problem for them, the cause is not known and it does not attract research. However, lets be optimistic and imagine a time when we will be well. Hope you are having a great day. Helen X
