It makes scadey reading I have had a great deal of correspondence with y MP about this and he wrote to Prita Patel on my behalf as he too was very concerned. To their credit I did have a reply I did have a load of guff about they were waiting to make sure the statistics were correct and met the high standards of official statistics! I think if so many people had not got involved they would have somehow managed to bury them.
My husband no longer gets ESA because of all this nonsense about if you are Contribution based you only get it for a year but I saw the way the decisions made and having to fight through two Tribunals was so detrimental to his mental health that was already fragile. In fact so fragile that when I wanted to go to be tribuna! To appeal my own ESA decision he begged me not to because he said he could not stand the anguish again. I am sure if he had ben on his own with all the forms etc it would have been the undoing of him.x
Thanks skit, it makes grim reading. I would advise anyone who suffers with anxiety or panic attacks to please think twice prior to reading the GOV.UK report.
Unfortunately my brother was 1 of these statistics. He was found "fit for work" April 2013. We found a solicitor to represent him and it went through to 3rd tier tribunal and each time they said they are sorry but even though he died, this happened on the 1st of September 2013, because he did not die of any of the health issues their decision still stands. He died of pneumonia, a complication of his conditions, his 2nd anniversary tomorrow :o(. I am not quite sure how many have to die before they sort their act out.
I am so sorry to read your post Gracegrandma. We know that the stress of all the tribunals get to people especially when they feel they are not believed, I was there twice with my husband. Yes we won in the end but to what cost to his already fragile mental health. They don't seem to take into account peoples work history or health history only on how they perceive them at that moment in time. My thoughts go with you for tomorrow.x
Sorry to hear about your brother graces grandma .....no doubt tomorrow will be an emotional day for you and your family. Words fail me about a government lacking in basic human compassion.
