Afternoon everyone. Had a text from DWP!!!!
Didn't think I'd given them my mobile no as don't use it much. Says " We need to talk to you about your ESA claim. Please call straightaway on 01978316068"
I'm on ESA, transferred over from IB in 2013 after a reconsideration and not heard from them since.
Do you think this is a genuine text or a scam?

Sounds dodgy, don't call the number on your mobile. Look up the relevant office and give them a call to see if it's genuine or not.
I would have thought if they wanted to talk they would have called you or sent you a letter by post asking you to call them. Check it out with your local office like bantam12 suggested it's what I would do. Please let us know if it turns out to be a scam. It may help others who get the same request on their phone thank you xx

It's not to do with this UC they are rolling out is it? I agree with the others, best to call your local office.
Have you tried ringing the number by putting 141 before you dial number so it shows up as a private number at their end. then you can see who answer your call
Thanks for all your replies.. I've checked the code 01978 and comes up at Wrexham area. Looking at past letters from DWP they are from Wrexham so might well be genuine. I'm going to ring my local office tomorrow and see what they say. Would have thought they would ask me to ring a 0345 telephone rather than a direct line. Will get back to you tomorrow with outcome.

Did try. Searched this no in Google, nothing showed. If genuine do they usually ask you to ring a direct line rather than 0345 tel no ?!.
I tried that as well nothing coming up for that exact match, but similar with Wrexham then in brackets Wrecscam, they normally write to you, not send texts
I've had texts off DWP before and I do mean more than two even so has others at lunch group in our church
Ring them on the normal number and find out if they text you... I have had calls and texts from them in the past but best to check it out

Hi sound very dodgy.DWP have free call numbers now's. ESA number 08001690310,takes forever to answer but they will help you.Good luck with everything.
I have heard of DWP doing this. Usually after a Mandatory Reconsideration. Be careful how you reply to this. The best thing to put is you are going to check out the authenticity of the text. And you will speak to your support worker for advice. And could the DWP send any correspondence by post only. As it is to do with esa. They try these tactics to move you from support group to wrag.
