Can some help me please...

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me please..

I went for my Personal Independant Payments Assessment on Tuesday 12th May 2015. My dad came with me and he even said he was glad he did as I struggled to answer most of the questions. Though I've got to say I was surprised at the lady who was doing my assessment as she actually said to me "can you think of anything else you struggle with so I can get you more money" I was shocked and very surprised she said that.

Anyway I think the assessment went very well even though I was rather stuck of some of the questions she asked me and had to get my dad to answer for me especially when it came to asking me if I bought 3 loafs of bread for £1.10 how much would he cost, I first said £1.40 but then then my dad said try again I got £1.30. Then the lady asked ms if I I gave the person at the counter £4.00 how much change would I get... My reply "I dunno". Which I didn't cause I'm complete crap at maths.

She then did a physical examination on me asking me to squeeze her hands etc as I went in my wheelchair.

Anyway my question is how long from the date of your assessment does it take to find out if you are receiving PIP? As the lady told my dad and I, that I would hear something within 3-4 weeks but it's now been 6 weeks, 7 weeks come 30th June.

I did however receive a letter about a week or 2 ago apologiesing for the wait as they had just received my medical information. I was speaking to someone the other day and they told me that sometimes it can take upto 6 months after the assessment date to receive the benefit.

I'm not sure if I should I just be patient and wait for them to contact me via the post. As I'm scared to ring them incase they say I have been refused PIP completely.

Have any of you applied for PIP if so how long have you been waiting??

Xxx

Hi Susan, I only waited 2 weeks, I think it may depend on where you live, it's reasonably quick in Cheshire. Good luck.

It sounds like your assessment went well for you, so fingers crossed. From what I have read in posts from other members it tends to take different lengths of time depending where you are in the country. So please do not get too down about having to wait. Hopefully a brown envelope with some wonderful news will drop through your letter box soon.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

If it were me, I would give the DWP a ring. They will not turn down your application just because you are chasing them up.

The number that you ring is essentially a call centre so they cannot give you lots of information. They can tell you if a letter is on the way but cannot tell you what it says. They can also take your details and get someone from the team dealing with your claim to call you back. That is the person who can answer your questions. You can also ask to speak with the decision maker dealing with your claim. They can then explain and discuss their decision with you. If you need someone else to do that for you then that should not be a problem as long as you give permission over the phone.

From experience, I would keep a note of when you called and who you spoke to. I would also ask for a copy of the medical assessment report which you are also entitled to.

Fingers crossed, you will get the award that you need to support you. It certainly sounds like you had a really nice assessor.

Best wishes,

Dave

I went for my PIP today and have been told I have to wait, 7-8 weeks for their decision, I believe listening to people this is the norm, your claim will from your assessment will be 7 weeks tomorrow, I would hang on in for another week and then start asking questions. Hope everything went well and you get the outcome you need.

Best wishes Lrain. :)
