Sore tongue?

New to all this . Does anyone have a sore tongue with fibro? Just feels like I have scalded it with a hot drink all the time . My doc just passed it off very flippantly by saying "oh you can get lots of things with fibro "

Hhmmm...not very sympathetic, is he? I can't say I've ever had my tongue associated with my fibro. Usually it's due to a hot bit of food. I'm sorry you're having this symptom so often. It's sure to be annoying.

Thanks BonnieSue. I thought it a bit strange . I had the same sore tongue last year but my Iron was low and once I got my iron level up my tongue improved but it's back again and my Iron level is ok. It is very sore and annoying . Don't know what to do with it.

It might be your particular Early Warning System. We all seem to have our own personal system that tells us when we're feeling a little off in some way. Maybe, just maybe, this is yours.

Caza30 that is so weird, I have had the same thing for the last week. My tongue has felt slightly sore and rough like I've burnt it with something. I suspect with me it may be due to a slight iron deficiency. As a vegetarian I have to ensure I keep my iron levels up so going to do a Popeye and dose myself up on extra spinach! Hope you feel better. x

The low iron can give a symptom of sore tongue Ramjets so that's why I thought my iron was low again. Some people are telling me to get my B12 checked because if it is low it can give sore tongue.I am not vegetarian but I don't eat much meat and I don't take dairy.Apparently B12 is mostly got from meat so vegetarians can be at risk from low B12.Might be worth you checking that out . x

Yes I will do thanks for the advice Caza30. x

Hello caza- yes I have a terribly cracked and broken tongue, Dentist is the best person to take notice of your complaint as they look thoroughly at a check up.. I was given folic acid recently following a B12 injection and it is slowly healing, I drink thru a straw and make sure fluid goes to the back of my tongue/throat so as to avoid scalding.. I have been diagnosed with Sjorgrens Syndrome which I am told can occur after long term use of meds (in my case Losec for G.I. disease) However I have found a good mouthwash on e bay (although some small pharmacies sell it) Its called Xerostom its contains 3 oily substances that keep your mouth moist for a few hours its a 250ml bottle and I transfer some to a small spray bottle to carry around, this comes in pastilles, gum, toothpaste and spray (spray expensive improvisation like me better and cheaper). IF your tongue is sore then I would advise buying some Difflam first to heal the soreness (again avoid the sprays as there are a lot of faulty ones) THEN on to the mouthwash when it feels better..Hope this helps..

Hi caz, I used get a spray from my gp glandasole that's not how you spell it but my brain is not working today ( mine you it rarely dose these days) lol

It help with your saliva if you suffer from a dry mouth aslo some medication can cause it , i get daktarin from the pharmacist on minor ailments it saves paying for it, and its quite pleasant as some thing for sure mouth taste awful.

Hope it clears up quickly for you .

Hi caz , this is a very friendly and helpful site , I have only resently joined myself and I have hadfibro for years i used to reaserch things years ago when I was first diagnosis i had never heard of it never mind say it before but at that time there wasn't much on line the best one i used was a American fibromyalgia organisation they gave you the latest treatments and health asdvice nothing like this, it just everyday people who have the same illness all at different stages and medication but real people who share there experience and knowledge also a lot of fun as well.

Enjoy your day hopefully as pain free as possible.

Take care

Get your B12 levels checked when you can. I had a constantly burning tongue and sore mouth when my levels were low.

Caza30 in reply to MariLiz

Thanks for that Mariliz. Last year my GP said my B12 was fine at 430 but quite a few people on the PA forum seem to think that if you have symptoms and B12 is under 500 you should get investigated . My GP can't suggest anything else to me and I must say I have a few other symptoms that would go with a B12 problem but the burning tongue is driving me mad . Maybe I should try some B12.

You can buy a sublingual spray from health food shops, or lozenges ( again to use under the tongue). I bought the spray to use as a top up between injections. I also had burning sensations on my skin, like a Chinese burn, if you remember those.

I think I will do that . Thank you so much for replying . Your help is much appreciated . I just feel so miserable and the tongue is really getting me down .

MariLiz in reply to Caza30

You will need to look online for the lozenges. Having a sore mouth is miserable. I got ulcers too!
