My GP thinks I may have fibromyalgia but wants to rule everything out that he possibly can first before referral to a consultant. Looking back I've had symptoms for nearly two years now and it's come to this point, but the painkillers he's prescribed are not helping, any advice would be gratefully appreciated. This has all only came to light in the last six weeks.

Hi, you might want to do some research into under active thyroid. Look at the symptoms and see if they match yours. TPAUK.com is a good place for information.
Also get your Vitamin B12 and D levels checked, ask for all you results and post them on Thyroid UK and Pernicious Anaemia forums within Health Unlocked.

Google luck.
I can assure you Fredapain that being a syndrome is no less a valid diagnosis than your denigrating, 'just', a collection of symptoms. I'm glad you haven't had to 'accept' a fibro diagnosis, I wouldn't want to wish this lowly syndrome on my worst enemy.
What are your symtoms like tell me please Iv sposed to have Restless legs but all my symtoms are saying Fibro
Hi Chamaine42
Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I genuinely hope that you find the forum useful, informative and loads of fun! I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FibroAction, which is packed with loads of useful Fibro Information.
FibroAction Website:
From my own personal experience of Fibro, if your GP decides you do have this, then I would ask them for a referral to a Pain Management Clinic, A Physiotherapist, and probably a Rheumatologist, as these clinics can help with medication recommendations, help with your exercise and advice on how to pace yourself with your Fibro (which in my opinion is key). They can also make determinations on what is Fibro and what is something else i.e Arthritis etc.
I have pasted you a link to one of the FibroAction printable fact sheets that will give you some good advice on how Fibro is treated:

I want to wish you all the best of luck.

Hi charmaine42. My gp did same took 2 years of testing and finding the right gp to speak to within practise. Then referred to rheumy who finally diag fibro. When I think about it had restless legs for 2 years prior but too busy looking after parents to do anything bout it. When they passed nearly straight away symptoms started with, ear probs, leg/back/arm aches, stomach probs (ibs) etc. So i would let them do the tests but manage your pain. Hope all goes well. Take care . julie xx
Don't anything works really but I'm on tramadol & have been for 11yrs or more but they only dull the pain thinks it's how your own body reacts I'm a very stubburn person so I don't like to let stuff get me down I still work but only an hour a day that's as much for me hope you get sorted I just go to my gp now haven't seen a specialist for years hugs sent xxx
