Fluoxetine capsules???.?.

Just been to doctors hoping for a break through that he might give me something that will help me with my fibromyalgia, I wrote a letter saying I've been only on amitrirtyline and don't want to go on anymore antidepressants, so what does he give me, exactly that, have any of you been on these tabs, he said you can get vivid dreams that never go away. Feel really down heartened, there must be a doctor out there they know more about it.

Hi littlejan!

I don't really comment on here much, but get lots of great info. Your post made me want to tell you that fluoxetine worked well for me and then they switched me to Duloxetine (Cymbalta in the states) and it has done wonders for me! The neuro gave it to me initially for migraine headaches because it has a pain relief component that they can't really explain. I started on 30 mg. per day and after about 3 months increased to 60 mg ( Neuro tells me that you can take up to 120mg daily, but 60mg has best prognosis for pain relief.) As an added benefit to decreasing my headaches, my fibro pain is much more manageable! I won't say that it has gone away entirely, but I can function on most days and am not missing work as much. Since I started to feel better, I also started simple yoga stretches every morning for 15 min. and the combination has been the best treatment in over 4 years!

I didn't really want the antidepressants either, but have found it is much better than pain meds and all of their side effects. I did get dreams on the fluoxetine, but have not experienced that side effect with the duloxetine.

I can't seem to take even a half tab of the amitriptyline because it makes be so lethargic and unable to wake up in the mornings.

Best of luck to you in finding a combination that will make you feel your best!

Gail

Hi Litle jan,

I am in a similar position to Gail and now take duloxetine I am on 120gr in the morning and it is a brilliant pain killer it acts by putting up blocks on the pain message so they do not reach the brain. Sounds s =o easy but that is how a lot of medicines designed for epileptics originally are used now. The same with anti depressants. I wish you loads of luck finding your combination of meds. xgins

Hi I can understand your frustration however just wanted to say anti depressants have helped ease my pain a little. Unfortunately duloxetine and fluoxetine didn't work for me but now I'm on venaflaxine which is helping. I think it is a process of trial and error as we are all so different. I am taking a combination of other prescription drugs and constantly reviewing them with my gp. Good luck. X

Hi I have tried fluoxetine and it gives me major migraines. Now on amitrypline and Sertraline. The amitrypline is to help my muscles and the sertaline is to help with fatigue. I'm not sure they work to be honest but I'm willing to give anything a go. X

I'm on Sertraline for depression....can't say it's helped with the fatigue though! XXX

I'm not convinced yet either sue, trouble is I have reactions to a lot of antidepressants so it's a struggle to find what helps that I can take. X

Damn I can't believe docs would give me them then as I suffer from terrible migraines was having them everyday but now gone to once a month, still not sure if I should take them, did you get the vivid dreams then?

Hmm. Don't assume that because they're normally antidepressants that's what doc think they're treating. As a neuro drug, they help fibro. We usually get it in much smaller doses than for depression alone. There are indeed other treatments and it may help to emphasise to your doc that you're really uncomfortable with the idea, but please give them a try anyway.

I like the Fluoxetine/paroxetine/Prozac leaflets. "caution - may cause anxiety" err, that's why we're being prescribed! nevertheless it's worth trying to get past the preliminary stage. I was on planet Zog for 2 weeks after starting Ami. Now it's working fine, and in quite small doses.
