How do you cope with the pain?
HI,
difficult to answer as we all have different ways of coping. I find doing crochet or knitting can help, also meditation. I know exercise is probably the last thing we feel like but swimming in warm water can help. Music, definitely music can help. It took me a long time to find my ways of coping but it can be done. And I will also fully admit that some days I don't cope.

Hi Sam1964, getting your meds sorted helps, of course, to begin with! Being stubborn, and too proud to let pain win also helps. Putting two fingers up to it and telling it it isn't going to win, that you are never going to give up, helps. Also, now this may sound a bit weird, but I've sort of gotten so used to having pain that I miss it when it eases. Guess I'm just perverse, but I've sort of made friends with it. It isn't going anywhere, so we just gotta get on with it.

I personally find that working with my GP to get the right combination of medications to suit me is vital and then there's also pain management courses which are very good at helping you to learn how to take a holistic approach to your pain and teaches you how to live and manage it through educating you about what pain is and pacing your activities and positive thought etc. Best thing I had by way of treatment in years!!

Being stubborn, wheat filled heat packs, walking stick, cold packs, sleeping it off, supporting/strapping up joints, chocolate, sometimes even a good cry makes me feel better. I do have painkillers, but I try to not to use them (aside from my amitriptyline that I take regularly).

I am so sorry to read that you are struggling with your pain, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I think that we are all unique individuals and therefore we all react and respond differently to our pain medications and our illness. Therefore it is always a case of finding what works for you.
It is always a good idea to discuss pain management options with your GP, and ask for a referral to a Pain Management Clinic, as this may help you greatly?
