Hi Vixen, I don't cook on my own anymore, 1) I had real trouble trying to think what to cook..2) many times I have forgotten I was cooking and everything burnt, 3) I have left the hob on and later put cloths or tea towels on the hob and set them on fire, so I am too nervous to cook on my own now, I will help with it when I can but more often than not I have to go and sit down as I'm too exhausted (my kitchen is very small) and in pain to carry on.

I also suffer from depression and anxiety which of course don't help, so your not alone in this, is there anyone that can help you with the cooking or help you plan a weekly menu? I'm, lucky my sister, daughter or boyfriend will do it, and we have a takeaway once a week.

We're not silly it's just us panicking what to cook I'm getting to be very clumsy as well the other day I bumped into a door in a shopping mall and of course me thinking it was a lady I bumped into I said sorry not realising the people giving me weird looks only did I look it was a door lol

Hi Ros

I am so sorry to hear this, but I can relate to what you are saying! My son recently bought me an automated can opener as I am no longer able to open a tin. I have been spilling boiling water on my hands as my coordination has gone! And I do not feel safe anymore doing too much on the kitchen.

When I was younger I was a brilliant cook and could make anything from scratch, but not anymore. A lot of the time I have family in to lend a hand.

I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this problem.

Take care

Ken x

Slow cooker is good, throw meat and veg etc and forget about it. When they get hungry enough they either eat it , learn how to cook , or tell their friends parents they are neglected and get invited out - that bit is true! My sons have grown up to be healthy independent and well adjusted young men.

My son and daughter are in full time work one a chef the other kitchen porter

So the theory worked - they learnt how to cook! Great jobs. :-)

Mine have the wanderlust, elder is in Poland and the younger off to China.

I forgot the porridge I was making myself this morning too busy reading emails!

I do still cook and now break it down into stages. Like yesterday it was stirfry, starting early by getting the meat from the freezer. and sorting out the veg I`d need, then my concentration started to go, so a sit down. later I started slicing veg, I am safer with a chefs cleaver than a knife, better grip. this time it was a painful back that stopped me,So another sit

I find that doing it like this means that the fog and frustration don`t get time to build up

Oh and I also throw knives just missed Meg the one day and I think hubby may now keep out of my way. I tripped with a sharp knife in my hand and went staggering at him as though I wanted ti stab him , he went white.

Awe sue bless him I got drawers near my oven and sink goodness me that must've scared you both

Hi Ross son and I both thought it was funny, but I did point out to them that 2 big blokes and a dog in our small kitchen when I`m dishing up is not a good idea and chucked all 3 of them out.

I have skinned boned and got the tendons out of a turkey drumstick. It took 3 attempts, And hubby is doing chips to go with the bigger peices. bits will go in a soup or stew.

I simplify meals to the point of boredom. Living alone, it's easier. I cant say "oh no that again" . . . but it does help. There's plenty of frozen veg and meat (minced or diced) and actually with a bit of imagination you can produce a lot of variety in a single pot on the hob - but I do miss roast and grilling. Frying is more or less out.

As long as it wasn't your tendons Sue XX

Paul have you thought about a worktop halegen oven.; It`s a large glass bowl with the heater in the lid. You can cook anything from a chicken to toast.

cook ready meals in less time than it takes the oven to warm up. I did apple dumplings last night it took 30 mins to do 3 . Oh and it does do lovely crisp pastry. hugs sue xx

I've got a halogen oven . it takes only slightly longer than a microwave, but tastes much better :P

in reply to hamble99b

How are you today ok I hope. I never use the microwave but I love my oven. Hugs sue

Hi Paul I was ok until a couple of hours ago when our son phoned to say that his brakes had failed, Lucky for him it was on the island to get onto the M5. The thought of it happening on the M5 has got me shaking and I can`t stop. He is home and fine just peed off. He took the car into the garage on Wed because the warning light to say there was something wrong with the brakes kept coming on. The garage told him that there was nothing wrong with the brakes it was a faulty light.and he has that in writing. I won`t help him get to work on Mon though. sue

in reply to

Sounds nasty, electrics on modern cars are a disaster! I have heard about halogen ovens but had no idea what they were or how good they would be. Sounds like it would be a good idea. I hate waiting on the oven to heat. Got worried that fenbadger was going to cook Meg :)

in reply to

One thing to remember with them is to cook a joint or a whole chicken is to start with them upside donw then turn half way through s

in reply to

just reread pauls reply and it does sound as though he wants to spit roast her. :P

in reply to

So would you start with her upside down and then turn her halfway through :p

in reply to

You mean `white side up` :P

Oh Ross i do cook sometimes but i find i.m so tired when i finish that it becomes tomorrows dinner, i used to love to cook but i now end up either in tears of covered in burns..

I'm starting to get worried by tripping over all the time, I went to get my bedding off the line the other night and got my foot caught in the fitted sheet and ended up on the grass with the washing on top of me, lol I really had trouble getting back up, so pleased it was dark and no=one witnessed my tumble..
