Hi there mazz, I've had mine for quite a few years now, when it was called the orange badge, have you filled a form in, you use to be able to do this on line, they need to know how far you can walk and what are your conditions, they ask you on the form for your doctors name ect, then they will write to them, if they are satisfied with his answer they grant it, if not they may want to do an assessment themselves, that's if it's done the same as when I applied, I do know it was still the same about 4yrs ago, as my friend applied...good luck hope you have some success...I know things are getting tougher now, mainly because I think so many people have abused the system the same as they have the benefits , it has spoilt it and made it harder for the likes of us....good luck keep us posted as to how you get on....Dee x

Hi Dee, Thank you for your reply, I agree it makes it much harder for us to get anything because of the way people abuse the system.

I have filled in a form, I phoned them and they said they had sent a letter to my previous address by mistake! I haven't lived there for 9 years! so waiting for another letter with appointment date.

I have resisted applying for one for along time now as I'm still getting my head around this illness and still hope to wake up one morning and it will be gone, I wish, but it's getting silly, as I really cant walk with out pain in hip/back and of course the all over aching.

I feel guilty applying for one as there are people worse off than I, but my mental health team have encouraged me to do it.

so will see what happens and I will let you know

Hi,

I finally applied earlier this year and, although initially I didn't really want that label, now I wouldn't be without it. It's been so useful.

I applied and had it agreed without having an assessment, so can't help you there I'm afraid. What I would say is that as well as stressing how the pain, etc negatively affects your mobility, also stress that the chronic fatigue is equally debilitating (assuming that's the case for you).

I hope the assessment goes well for you.

Thanks Pip, yes fatigue is a big problem as well, I will certainly tell them about that! the fatigue is not something I have stressed about in the application form, which of course I should have, so good point.

I got mine a few months ago. I had an assessment, they asked about my pain levels on a score of one to ten & then walked a short distance with me & again I had to score it from one to ten.

I've had a blue badge for some years now and I don't know what I'd do without it.

My first application included a doctor's questionnaire but after that I haven't been given a form for her. Whether or not she is asked about my condition I don't know, but I recently completed a new form for the BB and the questions were the same as before; how far can I walk, do I get DLA and at what levels. I received my new badge a couple of days ago so I'm OK for another 3 years now! XX
