Alternatives?

As a fibro sufferer myself I would like to know if anyone on this site has tried any vitamin or mineral supplements, or hebs, that have helped at all, I read and it mentions magnesium, vitamin B12 etc.

Morning Little Jan,

I think most of us take vitamins B12 very good for memory and fog. Vit D the sunshine pill but get checked first see if you need it if you do doctor will prescribe right dosage. If you need others a little chat with your gp is advisable, but a general one through the winter of mixed will not go to waste.

I feel doctors are not interested in anything other than what they prescribe, herbal etc are out of the window, thanks for replying.

The only one I take is Vit B12.

Good morning,this is an interesting post as Iam reading a very good book at the moment called the fibromyalgia healing diet and it talks about all the vitamin and mineral supplements that can help with fibro.Its by Christine craggs Hinton and I got it from amazon.You could also try 5HTP for pain and mood and I use feverfew for migraines but it has stopped working for me now :(

I take calcium and magnesium, cod liver oil and a vitamin B complex plus St. John's wort in winter and they work well for me x

Hi littlejan, apart from my pain meds etc., from the gp, I take Calcium supplements from Osteocare. They have added vitamin D3 & Magnesium. Hubby has been worried about my bones for a while as I don't like milk. He was always going on at me about Calcium supps - & about supps for the menopause. Thanks for reminding me how old I am, thanks hubby, not!!

Oh yes, forgot to say I also take Vitamin B for energy. Well, I did, but I've just remembered I meant to get some more as I have run out of them!

hI, Good question! I managed to wean myself off 8 years of amitriptyline last year having previously failed miserably. The key seemed to be taking food supplements at the same time. I took Maximol ( ie -liquid minerals bought online) A daily probiotic capsule, a daily antioxidant capsule, Omega 3 EPA and a Vitamin B complex. I have never looked back and have continued to take most of them. My pain is hardly ever a problem now and the Maximol seems to help my depression as it came back when I stopped taking it but I'm so much better now I've started taking it again. Its the expense which made me stop but it proved to be a false economy as I went right downhill. Hope you find something to suit you. Coming off the amitriptyline also helped me lose a stone too! x

You've got some good advice already but here's mine. My partner is currently doing a degree in herbal medicine and I'll post any findings he comes up with. He's got me on juices at the moment for different things carrots and celery for eyes, etc and I think it's having a positive effect. He also mixes them with pure hemp oil (hard to find) which is good for the pain and stiffness. Food as well as herbs can have healing or negative effects. I find that carbs (bread, potatoes) etc increase pain so I try to stay away from them. I eat lots of pepper and chillis to help keep warm, which in turn, helps with the pain. It's mostly taking notice how you feel after eating certain items and starting from that basis.

Sometimes I think it's trial and error and what works for you may not work for others. I think the main thing is to have a holistic approach and not try to treat one symptom, but all or as many of them as possible. Gp's only want to prescribe for each individual ailment, but that's pharmaceutical industry training and sponsorship. They also receive "presents" from these companies for prescribing certain meds, even if they are not found to be helpful for fibromyalgia or other dis-eases.

I am allergic to many of these chemical laden "drugs" and would never take them as I develop serious side effects. Try to eat as naturally as possible and stay away from processed foods as much as you can. It's not easy, but it's worth it.

And if you can, try to avoid flouride in water (check the labels) and toothpaste as this is seriously damaging to brain cells and makes fibrofog worse. I have found a non-flouride toothpaste in a local health shop and not only are my teeth whiter than they've ever been, my fibrofog is also a lot less than it used to be. That's prob why this reply is so long lol !!!

Thank you for you reply but I havnt discovered what makes it worse, I'm just hurting all the time, as I said I knowing font gave it as bad as so e but after 13 yrs I've had enough. If you come up with any findings I would be intersted thanks.
