Hi diddle,

my teeth are painful too. just like mrsw described, I think its because I have a dry mouth during the night. Toothpaste makes it worse. I think its a good suggestion to try sensitive toothpaste. I am going to ask my dentist what toothpaste should I use for a dry mouth

thankyou for all your comments i was kinda hooing none of you had this and it was just me lol but may have known it was FIBRO related lol all i can say is ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 love diddle x

Hi Mrs W....My teeth started to chip!! also chunks of my teeth came out, sorry to tell you this but I think forwarned etc!! My dentist made a good job of patching the chipped teeth up but I am still having loads of problems with them & I think I am fighting a loosing battle trying to save them!! Now my front teeth are starting to go so I think if nothing can be done to save them I will have to look towards the dreaded dentures....If that happens at least it will be the end of all the missery fibro has caused them!! I really hope that your's won't be the same darlin I really do!!! Hugs

Hi there! Yes my teeth, gums and jaw hurt too. I do think alot of it is from grinding during the night! It feels like each tooth has been punched doesn't it. Grrrr. Gentle hugs to all x

I know that feeling all too well, or should i say i did.

i did teeth gring, but it felt like deep bony pain in my teeth, i worked out im intolerant to wheat , and cut it from my diet, and teeth grinding and tooth pain stopped, on the rare occasion ive cheated and ate wheat, it come sback, something to think about, however you need to stop the wheat for about 7 days to see the difference, as takes time for your body to settle back down xx

Mine are bad too, only on the left side and only when I am taking amytriptoline. The pain seems to stem from my jaw, travelling up the side of my head, causing headaches across my left teeth and down my neck, collar bone, forearm and elbow.

I don't think I'm grinding my teeth, but more clenching my jaw and pushing the top teeth out and bottom teeth in.

I had trouble in the past when I was prescribed Zoplicone for my RLS, but had to stop taking it as the pain was unbearable.

Since taking the amytriptoline, the pain isn't quite as severe, but enough to make me take pain killers.

I don't find using sensetive toothepaste helps, and i have tried mouthwashes too, but anything that touches my teeth, hot or cold causing agonising pain.

I'm off to see my GP tomorrow to see what he can suggest....

Can't help much but at least you know you're not the only one, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one either!

OMG, I can't believe this! I've been suffering with my teeth for the last few months, I didn't put it down to fibro. I thought I'm just getting old (just turned 60) and will be seeing them smiling at me from a glass every morning! My mouth is so dry every morning that my tongue is literally stuck to the roof of my mouth.I also clench my teeth so much that it hurts. Could this all be down to amytriptoline? I don't really want to stop taking as they help me sleep.

Hi Diddle, I've only recently been diagnosed with FM but have suffered from Trigemenal Neuralgia for years and have been told by my specialist its not uncommon for people with Tri-gem to develop FM and visa versa, I find certain things can trigger it off, stress being one factor but also walking on the beach, cold winds, cold drinks, hot drinks, tiredness etc etc..... At first I thought I had a problem with my teeth, but a visit to the dentist showed nothing wrong but he said he felt it was Tri-gem, went to see a pain specialist who diagnosed it. The pain often effects my ears and the side of my head too. I take gabapentin for it, along with Amitryptiline and Duloxelene (both spelt wrong !) for the FM

Can really relate with your pain and hope you feel better soon, April x

Sorry Diddle hunni, but i have this too! It is usually only one one side of my face but God it is so painful. I think i have some sort of neuralgia problem as one side of my body feels like its been scraped down a pebbledash wall, its even in my hair and gums and (ahem) my wotsits! Its not funny tho cos my lovely hubby cant even hug me on that side! Am going to ask my rheumy about it cos its just not going away and its been like this for months now.....sorry Diddle but looks like its another fibro problem( as if we needed any more hey?) Take care...much love to you all x

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who suffers with this. I thought I was just being hyper sensitive and imagining it! I a so reassured when I come onto this site to see that the problems I get are 'normal' for fibro sufferers!

love to all

Me too I'm afraid. Mine started (left sided)many years ago long before I got FM and I was diagnosed with a-typical facial pain. It was excruciating and impervious to painkillers. Got some homeopathic remedies which helped no end. Then at the consultant's suggestion I got a plastic mouthguard and that too has made a big difference. I know that I grind my teeth because I first of all the teeth I grind most make bits of the guard go black and I eventually end up biting through the plastic!!! If I do get an attack - fortunately not so often now - I find that gentle massage and a heat pack help a lot.

I use a toothpaste called duraphat which was prescribed by Guys - prescription only. I also suffer from a dry mouth and am missing a few teeth so want to hang on to what I have left!

I have had a bottom metal denture for years and now have one for my two missing front teeth. Had my dentist in stitches when I told him (and there is a ring of truth in this) that I will try to put the top one in the bottom and vice versa!!!

Hi Diddle

I'm also suffering with my teeth breaking and what feels like someone holding a live electric cable to my face which shoots pain through my jaw, head and teeth it's horrendous. I just hope with all my heart that this doesn't happen to you. I thought that it was just me and until reading your post and all the responses to it i didn't realise that fibro can affect your teeth.

Gentle hugs

Dawn x
