Advice on DHEA

Goldenfeather123 profile image

Hi Ladies,

Hope you are all doing okay. xx

I remember reading some of your posts about taking DHEA for egg quality. I'd like to hear your good experiences with DHEA supplement. Did you have abnormal levels of DHEA and Testosterone before taking the supplement? And what were the brand, dose and duration?

My daughter has just got her blood test results which are all in the normal ranges. Not sure to take DHEA or not? She is 40 and egg quality has been always poor.

Free Testosterone 15.7pmol/L (3-37 are normal)

Total Testosterone 0.97 nmol/L (0.24-1.25 are normal)

DHEA sulfate 3.25 umol/L (0.7-12.49 are normal)

Any advice?

Hello

I am absolutely not an expert in this, but just thought I'd share experience. I mentioned DHEA to my consultant and he suggested I take 75mg per day and that I wouldn't need to test to take that dosage (I'm 39, low AMH and poor egg quality). I've had a few months on it, a failed round and now in a 3 month break before going again so I decided to get my bloods checked.

My DHEA was 10.1 umol/l (but I had recently reduced my dosage to 25mh per day, purely because I ran out and I was waiting for my blood rests before reordering. So right now I'm unsure whether my levels were much higher than this whilst consistently taking 75mg). I've read that the aim is to get the DHEA higher within the normal range, so I'll be trying to maintain this level whilst I wait to start treatment. I ordered mine from iHerb.

I did get more eggs from the round after taking DHEA, but bottom line - I'm still not pregnant.

Lots of good luck to your daughter! x

The book 'it starts with the egg' by Rebecca Fett gives helpful advice on this and other supplements, and improving egg quality more broadly. I believe DHEA helped me at 40.
