Wondering if anyone can shed any light on the following…

At a scan I had a few months ago I had an AFC of 8. Previous ones are usually about 5-7.

My cycles have always been a very regular 27 days with early ovulation on day 10-11. This cycle just been, didn’t have an LH surge and got my period after just 2 weeks.

Period was full and normal length. Had a baseline scan day 3 as we were expecting to start an ivf cycle at my next period (but obviously put it back due to unusually short cycle). Baseline showed two 12mm follicles and two 5mm ones. I assume these 12mm ones were what should have grown to ovulate but instead u got my period?

My clinic have advised me to start birth control for a month then start an ivf cycle.

My question is, what’s happening to those two 12mm follicles right now? Technically I started birth control on day 3 of cycle as advised, but obviously had unusually big follicles for that day of cycle.

What are the chances they disappear and in a months time I get a nice small sized group of follicles ready to start an IVF cycle??

Birth control pills silence your ovaries. So those two large follicles should have shrunk and disappeared by your next cycle.

Those 2 follicles have just been a bit slow at shrinking [ resolving ] -and the pill will dampen your hormones and encourage them to disappear before next cycle of treatment

Thank you, that’s reassuring to hear. Was very strange and out of the ordinary to have a 2 week cycle and was worrying to then see two 12mm ones alongside two 5mm at the day 3 scan. Being told to add it birth control then too just made me worry it was all becoming jumbled in there!
