Does anyone else's clinic prescribe routine antibiotics (doxycycline) before FET? I understood why they might have prescribed them before the egg retrieval (also for my husband) but I don't understand the reason for prescribing before a FET, and I wondered if this is common practice?
I am considering trying probiotics after 2 failed transfers but of course wouldn't be able to do this if my clinic prescribe me a course of antibiotics before each FET.
Thanks for any info X

Hi lovely my clinics in north Cyprus and they give antibiotics before transfer in case of any infection. My mum as doxycycline she as copd a lung condition and there a good alround antibiotic treat everything from chest infection to every other infection good luck lovely xx
Hi! My clinic doesn't prescribe them routinely but they gave them to be due to BV infection before my second FET. They told me to take probiotics alongside, actually, both oral and vaginal and to continue them after the antibiotics. I was convinced we were out before the transfer even happened with everything going on but that was the one worked for us. Very best of luck!
Hey, thanks so much for the reply - that's really interesting to hear and I'm so pleased you got your positive, congratulations! Will definitely be trying the probiotics X
My clinic prescribed before all three of the transfers I had as a precaution to guard against infection. Anytime you introduce a tool into the vaginal canal (and past the cervix in this case) the risk of infection goes up.
My clinic also recommends antibiotics, like doxycycline, before transfers to help safeguard against any potential infections. It seems to be a precautionary measure, even though it can be a bit confusing at first.
As for probiotics, from what I understand, it’s generally okay to take them while on antibiotics, though it’s always best to double-check with your doctor first. Probiotics can sometimes help maintain gut health when you're on antibiotics.
Hey, thanks for your reply and for the explanation on doxycycline, that's really helpful to know! I definitely found it confusing but now it makes sense. That's great to hear about the probiotics, it sounds like they are worth a try and I will check with the clinic when I am back there.
Thank you so much, wishing you all the best too xxx
My Greek clinic prescribed some antibiotics routinely for FET. I decided not to take it for my last FET because they were interacting with some other medication I was on. My NHS clinic never prescribed it for FET.
Hey, thanks for the reply! It's weird how some NHS clinics do things differently, it must be down to the doctor's preference. I will ask next time why they are routinely prescribing antibiotics for FET X
Hi Leii9 , thanks for the reply, that's interesting to know. It looks like in the very least it shouldn't do any harm then. I am so pleased you got your happy ending ❤️ X
