antibiotics before FET
Hi Natasha,
I am on pessaries, been putting them at the back door since very beginning and don't have any issues with it. Don't need to lie down, can cary on doing normal house chores. I've heard many stories that pessaries can cause irritation and bleeding if used vaginally. Also my clinic asked me to use pessaries through the back door on the morning of the transfer. Hope this information helps!
Thank you for your message , i just worry it won’t get absorbed as much as the front 😩 xxx
If your clinic's not answering can you ask whoever prescribed them if the antibiotics are safe if pregnant/TTC? Some are, some aren't. Assuming it's the former and the doctor knew your situation when they prescribed, from what I read antibiotics could sometimes help before transfer because they reduced inflammation and cleared any latent infections. My private clinic prescribed them routinely after egg collection, although not FETs, so I guess they didn't rate them enough re implantation but safe enough and worth it after a collection and bwfore a fresh transfer. Also, I guess the risk is pretty low but I suppose you wouldn't want to risk the infection getting into the womb via the catheter on transfer - they'll sterilise madly etc and not necessarily even something to be worried about depending on the infection, but maybe worth taking them now to get it mainly cleared before the transfer? Even if it just stops you being uncomfortable!
Hi Natasha,
I literally could have written this post.
I have my transfer on Friday and I’ve got an awful UTI today.
I get them frequently and so fortunately have some anti biotics that the doctor lets me keep just in case.
I spoke to my fertility consultant and he said it was fine to take them. I have niturfotoin (not sure exact spelling).
Obviously you should check with your clinic but just thought I’d let you know what time said.
Good luck! 🤞🏻💕🤞🏻💕 Feel better soon xxx
Thanks for the message ❤️ nice to have someone in the same position . Is this your first transfer ? Im so excited and nervous this time round , my first go was a bfn on a fresh and I’m praying a fet agrees with me more xxx
Hi Natasha2012, I had a uti before my hysteroscopy and the Dr asked me if I was trying to conceive and gave me antibiotics that would be pregnancy friendly. It was a course over 5 days, but I was fine to take. Good luck with your FET x
Hi! I am sorry to hear about the infection. By all means, consult your GP/clinic or pharmacist on whether the prescribed antibiotics are safe in pregnancy - if not, they should be able to give you ones that are. I came down with BV days before my last FET and was gutted when they prescribed oral antibiotics, which I had to take for a period after the transfer. I thought I was out before it had happened, but actually, this was the FET that worked. From what I understand, antibiotics can be beneficial because sometimes there are chronic undiagnosed infections of the lining that can hinder implantation, so taking an antibiotic helps clear them. Very best of luck!
Hi Natasha, I’ve been advised that I have over produced yeast down below although don’t have any symptoms and have been advised to visit my Doctor before treatment commences to have an antibiotic so I think if you’re Doctor is aware you’re going through treatment then hopefully they should be safe to take. Hope you get a clear answer and good luck 🤞🏼❤️ x x
hi everyone so spoke to the clinic and the antibiotic is nitrofurantoin , I’m not sure if it’s a uti or bv tho and it might only work on the uti …. Has anyone taken this ?
