5mm uterine polyp - To remove or not

Hi, it was confirmed via 3d ultrasound on Tuesday that I have a uterine polyp measuring 5mm. It’s low down and not close to the area of implantation.

The sonongrapher in her view would leave it and she’s knows of a patient who is currently pregnant with a polyp and she mentioned that it may not be picked up in a hysteroscopy.

I have a call with a consultant in September for their opinion. We can’t proceed with our FET anyway until my TSH levels are reduced but if I investigate the polyp it will delay things further. I’m 37 and would rather not wait.

Has anyone here had a polyp and left it and got their BFP?

To add to my issues, I’ve also got IGA Nephropathy, take levothyroxine for my thyroid and am under investigation for Hashimoto’s. If anyone has experience with these and IVF and had a successful outcome, I’d love to hear your story.

Thank you x

Just wanted to say thinking of you - hope your appointment with the consultant in Sept goes well They may well suggest doing a hysteroscopy before continuing treatment

Take care

Hi Kerry,

From the other side of things, I had a polyp removed and it still took 5 transfers after for us to get a positive.

A close friend of mine has 8 huge fibroids in her uterus, and has had 2 pregnancies (naturally) so I can't imagine that a small polyp would make masses of difference, especially if it's not where implantation should occur.

What has your doctor advised?

xx

The first consultant didn’t comment because it wasn’t confirmed to be a polyp and they referred me for a scan. Two scans later and it’s still there so it’s a polyp. I’m speaking with a second consultant on the 13th who specialises in hysteroscopies so I will have to wait for their opinion. I wouldn’t like to go through the wait and procedure to find out they can’t remove it due to the size x

Hi Kerry I had a polyp 13mm X 6mm and got it removed … it was captured on day 9 when I’d already gone through stimulation so retried the eggs, got the polyp removed … had three periods and did a frozen double embryo transfer … cycle failed anyway … trying donor now even though there’s male factor … wishing you good luck whatever whichever way you’ll decide to proceed .. xx

Thank you for replying. This appeared on day 10 of stims, was to be checked at collection but they still weren’t sure and now it’s confirmed. I’ve read a lot of consultants prefer a clean cavity, it is tough knowing what to do x

Hi, I have had two small polyps removed following 5 failed transfers. I did it because it was in the back of my mind whether it was contributing to the implantation failure and i have heard chances of spontaneous pregnancy are higher after a hysteroscopy. Good luck xx

Did this work for you and do you recall their sizes? X

They were under a cm around 7-8mm. Not yet, for me its age related and clinic is putting it down to embryo quality but still trying x

hi, wishing you the best! It looks like all are so different. Our surrogate had a mc and then we found out she had 4 polyps. We had them removed in Jan and did the transfer in March. It worked and we are 27 weeks now. I’m praying all the best for you! I’m still stressed daily. Good luck and sending you good vibes

I’m glad it’s working out for you. Had I been able to conceive naturally this wouldn’t even be a worry but add ivf and you over think everything. Wishing you all the best with the remainder of the pregnancy x

thank you! It’s been a very hard and long journey. I’ve done 3 IVF cycles and this is our 2 with our surrogate.
