We are in the middle of cycle no 6 of ivf. I have low AMH and we have had a maximum of 3 eggs collected. Out of size cycles unfortunately we have only had two embryo transfers (one fresh and one frozen)
The plan this cycle was for a fresh transfer if we have an embryo. However yesterday at my scan they identified a polyp and the lining was quite thick. They said they would monitor but they mentioned not doing a fresh transfer and freezing instead. They also mentioned a hysteroscopy but they are going to monitor my lining.
I asked if we are to freeze if we would get the choice to freeze on day 3 or day 5. We did have a day 3 embryo frozen which they advised us to defrost and culture to day 5 at last transfer and it didn’t grow. I read and learnt day 3 embryos don’t bounce back as well from freezing. Has anyone else heard this? I realise pushing to day 5 comes with a risk of no embryos (if we have an embryo).
has anyone had a hysteroscopy? Can’t they do this after collection but before frozen transfer? I have so many questions going round in my head since I left the scan yesterday and hoping others can maybe give me some insight.
Thanks for reading!

Hi lovely, sorry you’ve had a delay to your process. It must cause so many more questions.
I can answer the hysteroscopy part as I had one last May. I was fortunate to do it privately via work so it was under general - I think the NHS do it under local or light sedation. I understand it’s about 20 mins max. For me they found and removed polyps that were slightly blocking my tubes, and hadn’t been seen before, so it was worthwhile. I had to wear pads and bled a little for a few days afterwards but not more than 4/5 days. Best of luck 💜
Hi, can I please ask how you got this covered by private insurance? I want to try and get mine covered by Bupa but they exclude anything to do with fertility
Hi - I haven’t had anything done on private insurance, I meant I assume the private ivf clinic will do the hysteroscopy if needed if we pay but I don’t know! Sorry! Seems a bit harsh if they don’t cover it best of luck xx
I did mine on BUPA but you’re right, they won’t cover anything fertility related. So I got my NHS gynaecologist (for fertility investigations) to write a recommendation that I have a hysteroscopy, then I used that to get a Bupa authorisation code. It all went on paperwork as hysteroscopy for fibroid investigation & treatment- nothing to do with fertility.
Thank you. Did they have any issues omitting fertility from the referral? I hope mine doesn’t ask questions nor the private clinic if I can get it pushed through.
None at all, I think they knew the score. I had the letter from the NHS infertility team with the recommendation, gave that to BUPA, then I had an appt & scan with the private gynaecology consultant who agreed & wrote the letter for the hysteroscopy without any reference to fertility & o had the procedure a couple of weeks later. Best of luck to you!
Thank you. This has given me so much hope. I was informed I could be waiting 12 months through my NHS clinic but I know some doctors operate at private clinics so hopefully I’ll be able to be seen by the same doctor. I won’t be able to proceed with transfer until this is done. I was panicking I’d be quizzed and if they worked out I was undergoing ivf they would cancel it.
The only thing I would suggest, is keep chasing nhs for the referral letter-mine took about 6 weeks. When I called Bupa I didn’t give them the letter just told them I had the referral, then I showed the letter to the consultant only and she was really understanding. Best of luck 💜
Thank you. I just hope the doctor is understanding and agreed not to mention infertility as I’m not sure how to explain why I’m there because I don’t know anything about polyps.
