I had my first FET today and I wasn't quite prepared for how painful it was - and is now a few hours later. I really can't find much online about this, just about how it's uncomfortable. But I found it uncomfortable and painful, like an aggressive speculum handler was down there and not a doctor!
And now, only a few hours later, I am experiencing some quite strong, painful cramps on and off. Trying not to panic but I don't know if this is normal?
Has anyone else experienced this? Really hoping it isn't my uterus doing me dirty!

hi lovely try to put your feet up and relax now x hopefully the discomfort will go away with a good night sleep. It’s not the best experience, although I was quite surprised how quickly they do everything. I’ve had some painful transfers too, normally the worst bit is the speculum specially if you’re not relaxed or warned ! Wishing you all the best of luck x
Ouch! Sounds like they were quite heavy handed! In my experience a FET is pain free. Might be worth contacting your clinic. Hope the pain goes away soon x
Hi orangecatmum, it can be quite painful but it shouldn't be. The pain can differ transfer to transfer and depend on how relaxed you are, where your bladder is sitting, how your uterus and cervix are sitting. I have a severely tipped uterus and had very painful transfers as they hit the cervix at a bad angle on the way through. I let the clinic know and there are things they can do to help - smaller speculum, heating the speculum, giving you sedatives. The cramping now might be a result of the difficult transfer but it could also be the embryo just doing its thing. Cramps after transfer can be a positive sign so fingers crossed that is what is happening. Either way it should calm down soon. Good luck! xx
hi I’ve had really difficult transfers which were all painfully. My last transfer I was in the clinic for over 3hrs as they just couldn’t pass the catheter through my cervix which is quite wiggly apparently. I was so sore for a day or so after which the clinic warned me about. It was ok after a days rest. Hope you feel more comfortable soon and sending you positive vibes for this transfer xx
Thanks all - it definitely seems more on the rare side but it's comforting to hear it isn't too unheard of - Bonnie2023 that sounds so mental, poor you! Was it successful despite all the hoopla?
I do feel a bit better today thank god. My clinic just called too and said it isn't common but it can happen, and if I have another FET they could do it under sedation if I wanted.
