TW: Missed miscarriage: get assistance from EPU or wait another week?

Hello,

One week ago I had an 8 week scan and they couldn't find a foetal pole or a heartbeat, so I was referred to the EPU for miscarriage management.

I spoke to the EPU and they told me I can wait for up to 2 weeks to see if I pass it naturally. We still set up a first visit after 1 week and the nurse told me I can cancel it if I decide to wait another week. My appointment is tomorrow and I am considering whether to wait some more or just go and have it managed (I understand they will either give me pills or a D&C).

So far there is no bleeding whatsoever, although in the last 2 days I have been having that feeling of "heavy uterus" when you walk which you get before a period sometimes. I am debating whether to wait a bit longer, but I am also scared of possible complications.

Ladies who waited, how long did you wait?

Thank you

Hi. How awful to get to eight weeks and suffer a missed miscarriage. I hope you have plenty of support just now. My feelings would be to attend the appointment tomorrow, they will at least check you over. The heavy feeling you have could be your loss on its way , but they will advise you further. Thinking of you. Diame

Thank you DianeArnold , you are very kind. There are a lot of feelings and none of them are what I thought they would be in this situation, but I am managing and I have support. I will take your advice and attend the appointment tomorrow.

Thank you

Its such a personal choice but I waited a bit longer as I didn’t want to have the tablets as it means you can’t try again for a while because of what’s in them. I also defo didn’t want surgery if I could avoid it. I had a few scans to confirm after slow growth at 6.5 but wasn’t confirmed u tik nearly 8 weeks and bleeding started at 10 weeks (about 8-9 days after I came off meds) and the actual tissue passed a few days after that. I’m so sorry you are going through this and having to wait I know this is actually harder than the miscarriage emotionally I hope it’s all over for you physically soon 💜 xx

Thank you so much Twiglet2 .Yeah the wait is killing me, haven't slept properly in a week and I haven't been so frantic in my life. I just want it done at this point.

I totally understand 😢 do you have any things that normally help bring on a period? Those seemed to help me (baths, walks, a glass of wine etc) xx

No, I am normally very regular. I think in the last two days it started to feel like bleeding might start soon, I have sciatica on my right leg (which is a thing before a period with me) and some lower back pain, but it might also be wishful thinking. Judging by my still sore boobs, I still have a lot of progesterone in me so hard to tell.

it is hard to tell. I did start to feel like I do before my periods a few days before it started, my boobs were sore for a while after actually too. It might be the progesterone needs to drop a bit more still. If you go for another scan it shouldn’t mean you defo have to get medical management though it can help to see what’s going on. I debated mine form one week later to 10 days as I started to feel it would happen soon and when I did go they said everything now looked like it would happen soon (a bit disjointed and some bleeding near the sac etc) and then j went back after the bleeding started and they said looked like would bleed some more but they had no concerns over retained tissue so the scans were reassuring even though I didn’t take any meds or have surgery. I wonder if that’s an option for you at all? Xx

So I just had my appointment with EGU. Doesn't look like it's coming off by itself yet but I decided to wait. I have another scan in two weeks but if I change my mind at any point they said I can call and pick pills, D&C with local anesthesia or D&C with total anesthesia. I think I will go for D&C with local if it comes to it, I know it will be a bit more traumatic but at least it is over quickly.

Thinking of you and that’s something that you have options on what happens and when as the not knowing is the hardest part! 😢 xx
