Anyone had better success with Meriofert?

Hi all,

My consultant has suggested trying to Meriofert (for cycle 2) to improve egg quality at collection. I was previously on Ovaleap, which produced 18 eggs but had low fertilisation rates.

Has anyone had better results using Meriofert?

Thanks all

I've had meriofert on my first cycle and it was the time when they collected less egss.... my current doctor is not a fan of that one because of it contents, but the fact that it was not the best medication for it might not mean that it is not ok for you.Good luck😊

Hi Porridge, did you do ICSI?

My first NHS cycle was long-protocol IVF and fertilisation rate was very low (16 collected, 14 mature, 4 fertilised, 2 day-5s).

We subsequently went private and did short-protocol + ICSI; I was always put on gonal-F and/or menopur, and then meriofert in my final cycle (this was a duostim abroad: menopur first collection, then meriofert). I found no difference in terms of fertilisation rate and progression to day-5 when we did ICSI. I read that meriofert helps eggs mature.

Hi - I had Meriofert on my first cycle. 6 eggs retrieved, 3 mature, 2 fertilised. One early blastocyst on day 5.

For my second round I had Pergoveris which resulted in 4 mature eggs, 3 fertilised and 1 day 5 blastocyst.

The Dr felt I had better eggs on Pergoveris. Meriofert is also a pain to mix daily.

Hello

I became pregnant from my first ivf in 2022 on Merifort. My 2nd, 3rd, 4th on gonal F failed. I’m now on 5th and final cycle with own eggs, I insisted on Meriofort, my doctor agreed and. Said it is better for quality in older women (but more expensive than some stims) , had egg collection last month, had 10 eggs collected, 8 mature, 6 fertilized and all 6 divided well and were frozen at day 3. On my 4th cycle with gonal F last November, had 10 eggs collected but only 4 mature so a lot less than the merifort, so I would say better results but It’s different for everyone of course. So much good luck with your next cycle. xxx

I do think opinions vary amoungst doctors. My doctor does not think Meriofert is good for older patients. I think it just varies so much amoungst patients

Wouldn’t it be nice if everything ivf related was black and white, it’s all so tough… and the decision making is so so hard. xxx

I had a marginally better response on meriofert. Five eggs vs 4, all fertilised both times but no blasts. If I go again, they’re going back to it.

My first two rounds were with menopur & my third was with meriofert. I didn’t find any difference with number of eggs or fertilisation rate.

My first cycle I had meriofert, had 15 eggs collected and ended up with 7 blasts. My second cycle I was on ovaleap and got 17 eggs collected but only 3 blasts. I’m yet to have a successful pregnancy, but my consultant has said about going back on to meriofert this time as I got more blasts the first time. I was 31 first time and 34 second time. Will be 36 going in to my next cycle. So will see what happens. Good luck and I hope you get a successful outcome this time 🤞 xxx

Hi Porridge98,

My first cycle I was on ovuleap with a long protocol-i was told I got 5 eggs but in the end I found out 3 were just cumulus cells, they injected 2 but only 1 fertilised normally and I had a day 2 transfer of a poor quality embryo. 2nd cycle I had same protocol but cancelled due to poor response and follicle flare.

Third cycle, I was on Meriofert with a short protocol. Yes it is a bit more faffy, but I ended up with 4 mature eggs, 3 fertilised and were doing OK at day 3 and 2 made it to blastocyst. I had one 5bb transferred and the clinic froze the second (a 4cc which I'm aware many clinics would discard). I do think it made a difference for me and from what I've read it helps produce more mature eggs.

I'm half way through the TWW so not sure of outcome but keeping everything crossed. Wishing you all the best with your treatment too!

Just to update this thread for those that are interested. On the Meriofert (150), I got 11 in total, 9 mature. 3 fertilised and 3 x 5 day embryos (2x A, 1x C). So, for me, so far, stastically speaking, it was more effective and I’m feeling better than I did on the ovaleap. First cycle, I had 18 eggs, 16 mature and only 2 fertilised resulting in one very low quality embryo that didn’t receive a grade..

So, that’s my findings. 2 week wait ahead of me now..
