Ivf short protocol - gonalF + Meriofert and Fyredamel

Hi All,

I have just started stimming yesterday on a short protocol. My medication includes GonalF 450 for 7days followed by Meriofert 450 for day 7 onwards. And instead of buserelin i am using fyredamel.

Has anyone else has any success using meriofert? Does anyone have any views on the difference between meriofert and menopur? I have googled but there isnt much out there.

Has anyone had success using Meriofert? Or is familiar with the medications for my protocol described above?

By way of background:

I am 39 and have been ttc for a few years.

My first cycle (long protocol) was abandoned due to only 3 follicles and only 1 mature follicle.

My second cycle i managed to get 2 embryos from my only 2 follicles. They didnt stick.

Then i miraculously got pregnant naturally (but miscarried).

I am on my third and probably the last cycle - currently on stims. Has anyone had success using Meriofert? Or is familiar with the medications for my protocol described above?

Many thanks x

Hi joey81,

I am due to start stimming with Meriofert for our 2nd short protocol cycle starting next week. Initially our new dr prescribed 150 Meriofert, but yesterday I reminded him that on my previous cycle, with 150 Menopur I only produced 5 eggs, despite having high AMH/AFC for my age and being expected to overstimulate. Then he increased my prescription to 300, so i hope that develops things at the right speed :) (fx)

So I can't say yet how Meriofert works, but I have read good things about it!

Which stimming drug did you use on the last 2 tries?

Xxx

Hi Isla,

Thanks for your msg.

1st cycle: long protocol with Gonal F, 300 daily. Only produced 2 follicles and cycle was abandoned.

2nd cycle: short protocol with Menopur 450 daily. Produced 2 mature follicles which developed to 2 embryos. Didnt implant.

3rd cycle: per my earlier msg.

I couldnt find much on meriofert online, and my clininc (chelwest), said they had only been prescribing it for 6 months. In my case they only prescribed in the 2nd week of stimming which i havent read about anywhere.

Hi Joey

I’ve used Meriofert on my second cycle. I don’t produce the volume of eggs I see many others list on here - but there was no difference in the number of mature eggs between my first cycle and my second on Meriofert. (I got 5! Which was incredible for me)

I also seem to be longer in the stimulation phase than most taking 15-16 days so think I was given Meriofert as not synthetic so easier for my body to break down to reduce side effects... maybe?

Our issues seem to stem from my eggs being tough to crack so we were delighted with having 2 of the highest grade blastocysts - whether Meriofert played a part in that ... who knows?!

One thing I know is nobody knows anything for sure in this game.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Loma, its great that you got those amzing 2 embryos - are you now in the 2ww?

Did you combine meriofert with gonalF on your treatment? From what i have read on this forum, it seems people have been given meriofert in standalone basis.

Thanks Joey

I had GonalF (300) and Meriofert (150) which I took together from day 1 to day 13 or 14, I can’t remember now.

No not getting too excited just yet. Just glowing that I’ve got this far this time. Awaiting PGA results but going to go through another cycle to get as many ‘Young’ eggs as I can.

The whole implantation stage is another mindset for me that I need to get ready for. I’m not sure I would want to repeat egg collection again if I have failed implantation. I really struggle with how the drugs make me feel.

So hopefully 1 embryo will pass PGA testing and then another cycle will produce another and then I might take the plunge!

Hoping this 3rd cycle for you brings plenty of positives X

Hi Loma,

I havent yet explored PGA testing as not really had enough eggs.

For some reason my doc gave me gonalf alone for 7 days then switching to meriofert alone the next 7 days - havent come across this way of doing it before. Will double check with the nurse to see if this is the correct way of doing it.

I am not really getting any side effects from the medication so i do wonder if its having any impact on me. Yesterday i had to go to my inlaws and left my gonalf out of the fridge (in the car) while we traveller for 1.5hrs. Then i pit it on my inlaws fridge when we arrived to be used 4 hours later - i started getting so worried at night about whether i messed up my cycle!

Thank you...This will probably me my last cycle - so hopingg it all works out somehow.

Fingers crossed for your PGA xxx

Hi there. I am starting meriofert for my. Third cycle starting next month. I have low AMH and I am 40. Do you know if you are on a antagonist or microdose protocol? I am on a long protocol but micro dose. For my next cycle. I used Fermadyl on my last cycle: I only had 6 follicles and all 6 were matured. Not sure if that was down to the fermadyl. I always use buscelian as well as merifert and fostimon. Fingers crossed for you
